IQ DOUBTER ANSWERED

After the New York Times carried fanciful doubts about the importance of IQ (14 ix), I replied via the Human Biodiversity Group as follows:

It is notable that "op-ed columnist" David Brooks (while doubtless shocking some lefties by admitting 48% heritability for IQ) does not quantify for NYTwits any of the non-IQ factors that he fancies to be so important in life. He shows no sign of having read The Bell Curve, Race, Evolution & Behaviour, The g Factor, or IQ & the Wealth of Nations. Brooks thus fulfils the prediction in Heredity:

"Despite the limitations of their statistical databases and methods, Lynn and Vanhanen have launched a powerful challenge to economic historians and development economists, who prefer not to use IQ as an analytical input. It is likely therefore that this work will be studiously ignored, whereas it urgently needs to be refined and built upon."

Nor should Brooks be allowed to get away with implying that there are vast emotional/artistic riches and complexities that fail to be captured by general intelligence:

Strangely, Brooks could have drawn support for his IQ-bashing from Charles Murray's latest:

"I am among the most emphatic of those who think that the importance of IQ in living a good life is vastly overrated."

Re: `Love the alien'

Whether the "aliens" whom the Jews of the Bible were enjoined to "love" were merely from other tribes (John Hartung, Letters, September 11) or actually from other races (Rev Gilbert McAdam and B.W.Cooper, Letters, September 12), these aliens were still second-class citizens: they were to be left only the remnants of the harvest ("the grapes that have fallen," Leviticus 19:10), could not own Jews permanently as slaves (having to allow their redemption by a "clansman") (Leviticus 25:47-49), and were to be treated on a par with "countrymen ..reduced to poverty," i.e. not expelled (Leviticus 25:35). Hardly multiculturalism!

TRUE BREEDING

The grandson of Saint Nelson Mandela was sectioned as insane and detained in a secure London lunatic asylum after he attacked a fellow student (Sun, 20 ix). Dumani Mandela, 30, studying at ex-polytechnic Regent's College and sometimes representing his grandfather at public events despite a history of mental illness, had apparently become `obsessed' with a 27-yr-old classmate whom he had harassed by email and text messaging before finally thumping him over the head. Murderous Saint Nelson, once jailed for 27 years and subsequently the architect of the world's rape capital, Black South Africa, had once said he was "very proud" of his grandson (via a daughter).


RACE REALISM - OUT OF THE MOUTHS OF BABES AND SUCKLINGS

Seventy years after American researchers the Clarks found American Black kindergartners to 80% prefer White dolls to Black, despite multi-billion sums to reduce or deny race differences and attribute any such to `segregation' (which the Clarks never proved), the same result appeared to researcher Carroll Thompson in England - presumably reflecting the fact that Black-Black interchanges among preschoolers are rather aggressive and rude and not in fact a whole bundle of childish fun


MULTICULTI MADNESS

After UK police admitted spending tens of millions of pounds annually on translation services for immigrant suspects (whose simple cases of knife-carrying and drunken driving typically took a whole day of bureaucracy to process to the stage of bringing a charge), the goons of the Commission for Racial Equality admitted that their own multi-billion-pound expenditures over 30 years had yielded little but disappointment (which would need to be handled by further massive wage bills for its operatives).

A Daily Telegraph leader recorded: "In its refreshingly forthright valedictory report, the CRE - shortly to be subsumed into the Commission for Equality and Human Rights - in effect concedes that our 30-year experiment in multiculturalism has been a failure. Society is fracturing, segregation growing, the dream of integration further away than ever. This poses profound problems for the country: funding adequate public services is probably the least of them."

In response to these "profound problems," Grumpy Gordon told Labour's annual conference that matrons should be allowed to order cleaning on hospital wards; and Daft Dave proposed `green' taxes on people taking aeroplane flights to their holidays and driving the ultra-safe 4x4 cars that had become fashionable..

And the quislings at the Spectator offered: "The argument that discrimination on the part of a predominantly white society is to blame for the underachievement of one or another ethnic group no longer has the remotest basis in fact. If there are disparities in achievement between the various ethnic communities in this country it is solely down to the cultural forces at work within those communities. Chinese kids do well at school because the Chinese community places a very high value upon education. Caribbean boys do very badly at school because of a corrosively macho anti-educationalist ethos among Caribbean boys, which is gradually transmitting itself to white boys. This is something Trevor Phillips - and other black community leaders - have recognised in the past."


ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IMPASSE ANALYSED

A thoughtful article by Harvard's Christopher Jencks, Professor of Sociology, concluded with the implication that US employers might graciously be prepared to deny jobs to illegal Mexican immigrants (and accept criminal sanctions if they did not) so long as they were allowed to hang on to a goodly percentage of the wage-slaves whom they had already accumulated.. (New York Review of Books, 27 ix).

{Wow, perhaps America's original slavery would still be with us if bosses had had the financial clout in Washington that they currently have in the Republican Party! Still, some - like even the splendid Doc Theodor Dalrymple - say they rather like the South America that the USA will likely become (unless Mexicans prefer to bite off the American southwest for themselves - an unlikely outcome given the benefits of the largesse that comes with even minimal White rule).

Perhaps all that can be done is to allow employers the cheap labour they want but to deny such workers full citizenship, voting rights and benefits until they have kosher qualifications, marry second-generation Americans and distinguish themselves by contributions to the Exchequer? Indeed, if such second-class citizenship were available, quite a few Whites might themselves opt for it themselves so as to get low tax rates and free themselves from the West's lunacies of welfarism.}


CAPITALISM DEFENDED - UNREALISTICALLY

A fine defence of capitalism and economic liberty was provided by my one-time colleague, the ex-Nuffield College economist Dipak Lal. Having excellently converted from Indian national socialism to Thatcherism/Hayekism, Dipak was emerging as a fine opponent of what he nicely called `dirigisme dogma' (Independent Review 12, 2 (2007)). Sadly, Dipak's fine enthusiasm for freedom failed to admit that the major worldwide sources of lack of choice were actually low-IQ, corruption and the Western `experts' who traded massively in happy-clappy ignoracism.


RACISM A SIGN OF HEALTH

Non-racists were found to be incapable of negative emotional conditioning in general and thus should not be let out of the house without a minder (Science Daily, 26 ix).


`SOME IMMIGRANT GROUPS A DRAIN ON BRITAIN,' ADMITS LEFTIST THINK-TANK

Less than half of Britain's 650,000 Somalis, Bangladeshis, Turks and Pakistanis had jobs, and these four `communities' had high levels of welfare-dependency - so said the close-to-Labour Institute for Public Policy Research, which had been commissioned by TV Channel 4 for a programme `Immigrants: the inconvenient' truth' to be broadcast on 1st October (Sunday Telegraph, 30 ix; ThisIsLondon, 30 ix).

The IPPR's report further declared: "Several groups seem to be struggling to improve economic outcomes across generations. Children of Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Turkish and Somali ethnicity achieve below-average results in British schools". The IPPR'S tables seemed to show that people from Iran, Somalia and Bangladesh claimed the most unemployment benefit -- five per cent of the claimants coming from each nationality, against the average one per cent coming from Britain's non-ethnic adult population. Immigrants from Somalia also topped the council house league table -- with 80 per cent living in subsidised social housing. One in ten Pakistanis claimed sickness or disability benefit --almost twice the level of claims by people born in the UK.

Labour MP Keith Vaz, chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee, complained there was a risk of stirring up racism by airing such facts but Channel 4 pointed out that some first-generation immigrants did well under their own steam, notably Americans, Australians, Indians and Poles. {IQ and the Wealth of Nations estimated the IQs for the countries-of-origin of the least useful immigrants as Somalia 68, Bangladesh 81, Turkey 90, Pakistan 81 and Iran 84. Jamaicans (mean IQ back home 72) did a bit better since 50% had found jobs in Britain's NHS and social services - and doubtless used their longstanding contacts to get the many nicely paid jobs they had with London Underground.}

NOBELIST DEMANDS END OF POSTMODERNISM

The boot was heard going into the late Jacques Derrida's `intellectual' descendants as the greatest living British novelist, Vidia S. Naipaul, a true heir to Joseph Conrad, called for the closure of all university departments of English Literature for being full of postmodernist nonsense* (Times, 26 viii; Times Higher, 1 ix 2007). But these hell-holes of quasi-philosophical relativistic leftism** were not alone in attracting the ire of the notoriously curmudgeonly and realistic Indian but Caribbean-born 2001 Nobelist and devotee of European culture, for in a new 2007 book, A Writer's People, he turned out to have declared that, after sixty years of independence, "India has no autonomous intellectual life" (Daily Telegraph (Review), 1 ix). In The Middle Passage (1962), he had infamously offended his Caribbean birthplace by stating: "Nothing was created in the West Indies."

* Times: "I think it would be a great fillip, a great boost to the intellectual life of the country. It would immediately have a great impact. It would release a lot of manpower. They could go and work on the buses and things like that." Huge chuckle. In fact, he believes universities should "deal in measurable truth" and teach only science.

** In Among the Believers: An Islamic Journey, published in 1981, simply by letting people speak, he had exposed the delusions, anger and fanaticism in Islam that would lead, twenty years later, to 9/11. That book was a phenomenally prescient document, but it seemed to isolate Naipaul - notably infurating the great & good of Harvard.


SWISS NATIONALISTS MOVE AGAINST UNDESIRABLE ALIENS

The nationalist Swiss People's party (SVP), sharing power in Switzerland's governing coalition, proposed new legislation that would see entire families of immigrants deported if their children were convicted of crimes involving violence, drugs or benefit fraud. By this time, 20% of Switzerland's population were foreigners. It was thought likely that the SVP would be able to collect the 100,000 signatures necessary to triggering a referendum.


FLYNN CHANGES TACK

Kiwi liberal-leftist Jim Flynn abandoned his historical position that his grandfather was probably just as intelligent as himself and urged that easy exposure in the twentieth century to tasks of abstraction had yielded real IQ-type gains for those who had availed themselves of such opportunities, with special gains on such Wechsler subtests as Similarities and Picture Arrangement (VDare, 3 ix, Steve Sailer).

Unfortunately, Flynn's theory ignored the facts that test score gains had been found in infants (hardly spending their time practising abstraction|), that he could not demonstrate the widening standard deviation on `abstract' sub-tests that his theorizing had to predict, and that what all his high-boost subtests had in common (as they also had in common with multiple-choice tests which show even bigger gains) was that it helped if testees were willing to make guesses - as explained in Chapter 4 of The g Factor.


DAFT DAVE'S DESPERATION

Rather than take a lead from Tory grandee Michael Ancram, Marquess of Lothian, and back freedom (re sex, drugs, track choice, speech) and the family (to choose health insurance type, schools, pensions, level of policing), Eton-educated `Not the Conservative Party' leader (taunted by Prime Minister Brown that he lacked admiration for Lady Thatcher) compounded his already expressed dislike for grammar schools by urging that nice rural schools take in pupils from inner-city `deprived' areas.

The Daily Mail percipiently warned (5 ix): "Transporting children from the inner cities to more affluent areas would be reminiscent of the hugely-controversial bussing of black children into white areas in the U.S. Deep South in the 1960s and 1970s in an attempt to integrate the communities."

{At the same time, Dave's apparently equally dotty Shadow Chancellor was proudly announcing that he would keep public spending up to Labour levels through the first three years of any Conservative government - giving no hope of relief from bureaucrats, Eurocrats, quangoes, human rights judges and devolved assemblypersons.}

{Soon, Daft Dave revealed his Mafia streak, telling Michael Ancram et al. that they were "blasts from the past" and should "think carefully before they open their mouths." As his policy-for-the-day initiative, intended to suggest he had been thinking, he came up with modernized national service for youf - lasting a mere six weeks and being entirely voluntary, so hardly the jail-emptying Humanitarian Task Force for Africa long proposed in this diary/blog.}


MUESLI SCIENCE DEFICIT EXPLAINED

An article in Physics Today (7 viii) documented the abysmal failure of Mueslis to contribute to science in the past century. It did not blame low Muesli IQ - itself probably fuelled by fundamentalism and religious divisions among Mueslis; but its writer, a senior Pakistani academic, was express that it was not the West that was to blame, saying that, after a 7th-century flourishing of the alphabet, algebra and medicine, "Internal causes led to the decline of Islam's scientific greatness long before the era of mercantile imperialism."


GENE THERAPY FOR OBESITY IN SIGHT

Scientists at University of Texas Southwestern identified a genetic "master switch" that tells the body whether to store or burn fat (Daily Telegraph, 5 ix). The `adipose gene', known for fifty years to be present in fat fruit flies, was turned on and off by researchers and directly affected fat accumulation in mice.


CITIES SURVIVE SOCIALISM

Confirming that my life and times in Britain had not been entirely mis-spent, a Conde-Nast survey of the 30,000 trend-setting readers of its travel magazine gave the country's top ten cities as (Daily Telegraph, 5 ix): (Last year's position, if any, in brackets)

SEX DIFFERENCE IN VARIANCE DISCUSSED!

Thirty years after London School psychologists began to assert that the human sexes differed in IQ range (males wider), as for many other traits, and that men tended to `go to extremes' in pursuit of evolutionary success (some, like Genghis Khan, populating the planet, but many leaving no great-grandchildren at all), such faxalife were set before a high-level American Psychological Association audience (though not with any mention of who discovered them) (Dennis Dutton, 24 viii).

The late-in-the-day acknowledger of such realities, Professor Roy Baumeister, Florida State University, did a good popular job of soothing his audience of feminist harridans and hangers-on into concluding that nature and culture both treated men as dispensable (as Doctor Johnson had perhaps been the first to explain when demanding the law should back men to make up for females' otherwise overwhelming advantages) and finished with: "A few lucky men are at the top of society and enjoy the culture's best rewards. Others, less fortunate, have their lives chewed up by it. Culture uses both men and women, but most cultures use them in somewhat different ways. Most cultures see individual men as more expendable than individual women; and this difference is probably based on nature, in whose reproductive competition some men are the big losers and other men are the biggest winners. Hence it uses men for the many risky jobs it has. Men go to extremes more than women, and this fits in well with culture using them to try out lots of different things, rewarding the winners and crushing the losers."

American Renaissance (25 viii): "I worked in the Nigerian oil-patch some 40 years ago. During my time there I was constantly offered child `daughters' on an exclusive monthly rental basis as `comfort girls' by nigerians working for the national oil company or international contracting companies. I couldn't understand how they could do this until I was advised by long-time expats that these men would pay poor families to `rent' their children to sub-contract."

Anyone wondering how the Eirish were coping with their 25,000 African slaves ooops asylum seekers over the previous decade got their answer as the nice north-Dublin suburb of Balbriggan turned out to have closed the doors of its schools to immigrants - by the traditional expedient of demanding that would-be pupils should be Catholic - or at least Gaelic-speaking (American Renaissance, 3 ix).

Struck by the commercial success of the (scientifically empty) `Emotional Intelligence' (EQ), South African business studies personages advanced to invent `Spiritual Intelligence' (SQ) - complete with nudges to Harvard's Howie Gardner that he should acknowledge the breakthrough, with its "transformative power" amidst his own multidimensional nonsense (Marketing Web, 4 ix). - Nice to see businesspersons trying to square the circle! Perhaps they will next turn their hands to explaining the doctrine of the Trinity? Come on, boys, don't you read the core message to you, `Why ignore the g factor'?


GAY PAEDOPHILIA - BACKED BY PEECEE

Though yag leaders unfailingly protest that homosexuality has nothing do with paedophilia, a strong connection emerged in the case of two men, Ian Wathey, 42, and Craig Faunch, 33, jailed for repeated sexual activities with 8-14-year-old boys (including having boys watch others' masturbatory feats) in their care as council foster parents. Yes, the pair were homosexual and had a same-sex `civil partnership.' These facts, together with the couple being known as excellent carers who dealt `well' with difficult cases, encouraged social workers to send 18 boys in 15 months for the special attentions of Wathey and French, and discouraged them from pursuing inquiries even when shown pictures taken by W&F in a toilet at a Butlins holiday camp - for, yes, the social workers feared being accused of discrimination


RIGHT SHIFT FACTOR?

An engaging Speccie article (8 ix) by Anthony Browne gleefully pointed to defections over recent years by top lefties Andrew Anthony (Observer), Nick Cohen (Observer), Melanie Phillips (Observer), Christopher Hitchens (New Statesman), Frank Field (Labour MP and Minister), Alan Milburn (Labour MP and Minister), Polly Toynbee (Guardianista who had turned to opposing low-skill immigration), Trevor Phillips (CRE supremo with doubts about multiculturalism - see this diary/blog, above) as giving reason to hope the tide of Clinton-Blair multicultural neosocialism was at last turning. Encouraging as this was, the happy process had not resulted in anyone actually becoming a Conservative. By contrast, there had been plenty of defections from right to left:

So the picture was more one of `a plague on both your houses' - with Labour idealism having delivered little but remaining attractive to the usual suspects (notably homosexualists, who were being promised opportunities to use the criminal law by any who `humiliated' them) and the Conservatives having no fun to offer, certainly not the restoration of classical British freedom (of speech, substance-use, gun ownership, property defence, spanking, school leaving, sex & marriage from 14 etc.) or the 3-child family with stay-at-home mother.


TOP COP SQUEAKS OUT

After ten years of abject subservience to NuLabour's Sir-Wm-McPherson-o'CLuny-backed peecee nonsense (that police should not stop and search Bleck youf), top British bureaucop Chief Superintendent Ian Johnston, President of the Police Superintendents' Association, was sufficiently miffed to mumble (Daily Quislingraph, 7 ix): "Some of the biggest challenges facing the police service and our society today relate to violent crime, anti-social behaviour, youths [sic] out of control, knife crime and gun crime. Violent crime is a cancer that eats away at the very heart of society. A failed education system, family breakdown, alcohol and drug abuse, inadequate prison and probation services, an unresponsive criminal justice system, an entertainment industry that promotes violence and a media that glorifies in [sic] failure rather than success are all symptoms of a society in desperate need of treatment." Of course, the words race, Black, IQ and immigration were not allowed to pass his lips.


CLASS DIVIDE WIDENS UNDER NULABOUR

Reflecting the disappearance of the grammar schools which once made for social mobility, Sheffield University researchers reported widening SES divisions, with children in some areas 50 times more likely to get into a decent university than children in others (Sun, 8 ix; Guardian, 8 ix). Comparing the 2007 class divide to that of the 1930s, report author Dr Bethan Thomas said: "Our conclusion is that Britain is becoming increasingly segregated across all ages by class, education, occupation, home ownership, health status, disability and family type." {And this clear demonstration of Labour's hopeless inability to achieve its most treasured objective of advancing equality was obtained even without using the most meaningful method of social classification of people, into the HAVE YACHTS, the HAVE TOTS [no single parents allowed in this high-responsibility group], the HAVE BOTS [beauties with prospects of rapid advance] and the HAVE NOTS..}


LABOUR FAILS ON CRIME - Observer

While PM Gordy's right-hand man, Ed Balls tried to persuade Brits horrified by the killing of 10-year-old Liverrpuddlian Rhys Jones that they `had nothing to fear but fear itself,' top left-wing columnist Nick Cohen admitted the reality: "The idea that it's middle-class paranoia ignores the fact that lawlessness really is getting worse" (Observer, 9 ix). The NuLabour wheeze of `AntiSocial Behaviour Orders' (ASBOs) had not worked, said a police chief who had conducted research from the Cambridge University Department of Criminology (Guardian, 10 ix).


COWARDLY CONSERVATIVES CLOBBERED

Having failed for years to discuss race, IQ and what to do about useless, state-dependent, illiterate and criminal immigrants and asylum seakers, Daft Dave's `Not the Conservative Party' found itself upstaged as PM Gordon Brown demanded GCSE-level qualifications in English for new settlers in Britain (Guardian, 10 ix) - though whether the demand would apply to Pakistanis' imported brides as well as to jobseekers remained unclear (not that Daft Dave would be likely to ask..).


PHYSIOLOGY OF POLITICS

Differences between self-styled American `liberals' and `conservatives' in brain activity in the anterior cingulate cortex were reported in Nature Neuroscience by a New York University researcher, David Amodio (Chicago Tribune, 10 ix). Liberals, who were better at suspending habitual reactions when suddenly asked to do so, showed higher electrical activity. {A strong link of liberalism-conservatism to genetic factors was first made by Eaves & Eysenck in 1974 (in Nature); and linkage of attitudes to personality and information-processing was envisaged by me in 1997 (in The Scientific Study of Human Nature).} { From "The Devil's Dictionary" by Ambrose Bierce: "Conservative, n. A statesman enamored of existing evils, as opposed to a Liberal, who wants to replace them with new ones."}


`TOUGH ON CRIME' POLICY APPALS FRENCH MANDARINS

Seven top legal eagles and adminpersons in France's Department of Justice resigned in protest at what they called the "incompetent Stalinism" of Sarkozy-appointed iconic Black female minister Rachida Dati who had promised tougher minimum sentences and harsher treatment of recidivists (Gulf Times, 10 ix; Daily Telegraph, 10 ix). But Dati apparently knew whereof she spoke, for two of her eleven Bleck siblings were in trouble with the law; and her willingness to get tough on crime was going down well with punters, according to French polls.


AMERICAN ELITE'S ANTI-WHITE RACISM EXPOSED

As the widely-celebrated charges by Blacks and hangers-on of gang rape against Duke U.'s partying lacrosse players collapsed in total ignominy (after a multi-million-dollar year of legal investigation), the Wall Street Journal felt brave enough to mention the scandal of Whites backing even the most ludicrous allegations against other Whites in order to spare themselves from accusations of the dreaded `racism.' (6 ix). Apparently, the local prosecutor, `Michael' Nifong, "was desperate to win a close primary election and needed black votes, so he proceeded with an unjustified prosecution and publicly vilified innocent young men."

Apparently: "The vitriolic rhetoric of the faculty and Durham's "progressive" community--including the local chapter of the NAACP--helped to intensify the scandal and stoke the media fires. The New York Times' coverage was particularly egregious... It ran dozens of prominent stories and "analysis" articles trying to plumb the pathologies of the lacrosse players and of a campus culture that allowed swaggering white males to prey on poor, defenseless young black women. As one shrewd Times alumnus later wrote: "You couldn't invent a story so precisely tuned to the outrage frequency of the modern, metropolitan, bien pensant journalist." Such Nifong allies--unlike the district attorney himself--paid no price for their shocking indifference to the truth."


BIOLOGY OF INTELLIGENCE SUMMARIZED

A handy, up-to-date and welcome summary of London School research was provided at http://members.cox.net/bvv/Heritability_of_Intelligence.doc and http://members.cox.net/bvv/h2b.html by `new boy on the block' Bob Williams, an early-retired reactor physicist of hereditarian persuasion and with nice gifts for rapid mastery of a new field and clear exposition of the major results.

No, nothing had changed hugely since The g Factor; but new confirmatory contributions by Phil Rushton, Richard Lynn and Alex Beaujean were summarized and the recently re-realized importance of iodine to child intelligence was mentioned along with newer dietary discoveries of iron and folate being important - whereas TgF had identified only breast-milk and Evening Primrose Oil (providing fatty acids, important to myelination of nerve sheaths) as offering a route to IQ-boosting.

According to Williams, some workers were linking IQ-assisting myelination to vision-limiting myopia - an idea that would have delighted Sir Cyril Burt, who was the first to identify the myopia-IQ link as being genetic (rather than due to swots ruining their eyesight as so many educators once thought, leading to studious children being pushed on to games fields). Williams concluded with a reasonable faith that assiduous, Labourite and low-key Bob Plomin (lately Cambridge and London) would be the first to come up with precise genes for IQ - not perhaps knowing of the work of Sudha Seshadri at Boston University (told to aficionados of this diary/blog, 14 v 2007).

FORGET MUESLI `MODERATES' - SPECTATOR

The pointlessness of expecting Muesli `moderates' to control the 20% of `British' Mueslis who are now extremists was ingeniously pointed out by top columnist Carol Sarler (see above, 4 viii): just as a Baptist would rather listen to a scientist or policeman than to a Catholic, so Mueslis differing over interpretations of their scriptures were doomed to fight out their irresoluble linguistic battles ad infinitum (Speccie, 25 viii, `The jihadists will never listen').


MISANDRY MENTIONED

Ten years after I was sacked for condemning paedohysteria (along with `anti-racism' and egalitarianism), the Wall Street Journal (23 viii) got around to mentioning the fear, or rather hatred of men which had infested the West and led "child advocates" (who would never dream of warning the public against Blecks or Mueslis) to advise parents "never hire a male babysitter." Said the Journal's Jeff Zaslow (if with unnecessary moderation):
Some men are opting not to get involved with children at all, which partly explains why many youth groups can't find male leaders, and why just 9% of elementary-school teachers are male, down from 18% in 1981. People assume that all men "have the potential for violence and sexual aggressiveness," says Peter Stearns, a George Mason University professor who studies fear and anxiety. Kids end up viewing every male stranger "as a potential evildoer," he says, and as a byproduct, "there's an overconfidence in female virtues."


WEST MIGHT REGAIN CHRISTIAN FAITH

As the already-beatified Mother Teresa (d. 1997) was defended by the Vatican (Daily Telegraph, 25 viii) and kept en route for canonization despite a 38-year "crisis of faith" (1959-1997),* it appeared that the Christian Church (branches of which had mellowed towards divorc‚es, fiery feminists, fey gays etc.) might actually be able to accept the genuine loyalty and good faith of the racists, elitists and chauvinists whom it would need if it was to become a useful basis for the fight against socialism, PeeCee and Islam.

* In letters collected to document her life, Mother Teresa -- who was always outwardly cheerful -- struggled fiercely with her faith. Daily Telegraph, 24 viii: She compared her problems to hell and admitted that she had begun to doubt the existence of heaven and God. "The smile," she wrote [to a friend on one occasion], "is a mask or a cloak that covers everything. I spoke as if my very heart was in love with God, a tender personal love. If you were there you would have said, `What hypocrisy!'"


AFRICA SHOULD STOP WHINGEING - SARKOZY

As part of his first 100 days as French President (which won him an approval rating of 64% from the French public -- the highest rating for a President since Charles de Gaulle came to power in 1958), Nicolas Sarkozy, in a few-holds-barred speech in Dakar, Senegal, told African politicians to stop blaming colonialism for Africa's ills and to set to work themselves to rid the Dark Continent of its notorious genocides, other ethnic conflict, tyranny, corruption, poverty, Marxism and AIDS (Afriquenligne, 27 vii; Sunday Telegraph, 26 viii). The surprisingly blunt speech was "widely condemned in Africa as racist," reported the Guardian (27 viii), "including by the head of the African Union commission, Alpha Oumar Konare." South African leader Thabo Mbeki wrote privately to Sarkozy to welcome him as "a citizen of Africa" (who would presumably cough up a nice entry fee in Euros); but this letter was promptly leaked, leading to further accusations from fellow-Africans that Mbeki was a hypocrite.


LYNN & VANHANEN REPLICATED

As `anti-racist' Wiley DePublisher prepared to admit in its European Journal of Personality (21, Heiner Rindermann et al.) that the rank order for national IQs (inferred from OECD testing of mathematical abilities in 15-year-olds of 2000) was much as in IQ and theWealth of Nations (based on IQ data from around 1975) and that there had been no Black catch-up (as fondly envisaged by desperate acolytes of the Flynn Effect), it turned out that no-one needed buy the dull-as-ditchwater journal, for the main IQ results had already been supplied on Volkmar Weiss's website - which also included Volkmar's use of the two data sets to show dysgenic trends in MittelEuropa (about the only way in which Rindermann and his pussyfooting discussants added anything to the causal speculations already considered in IQ & WoN and IQ & Global Inequality and replies to them [reviews by me at Amazon and in this Diary/Blog, xii 2006]).


RACE REALISM DEFINED

Australia's `Sydney Bluegum' website (updated 2007):

The term 'race realism' was originally coined in Edinburgh in 1996 by Chris Brand M.A. The term has since gained acceptance in psychology and biology departments in universities across North and South America, Australasia, Asia and Europe. Race realism concerns recognition of the genetic differences between the human races, particularly with regard to their effect on average IQ and behaviour. The term derives from and is generally associated with the research of the Rushton-Jensen-Lynn group of psychologists, which in turn traces back directly to the London School of psychology founded by Sir Francis Galton and somewhat more distantly, Galton's cousin Charles Darwin.

I coined the term 'race realism' in 1996. The term 'scientific racism' had long been used by the hysterico-intellectual left* to smear the position of psychologists (from Galton and Spearman to Jensen, Eysenck, Rushton and Lynn) who reckoned there were substantial and important genetic differences in psychological characteristics between races.

In 1996, after the publication of my book about intelligence, 'The g Factor,' I had agreed to U.K. journalists that I (like any other known supporter of the London School) could be called a 'scientific racist.' By saying this, I meant to do only what the 18th-century Country Party had done when accepting the derogatorily intended nickname 'Tory' (offshore Irish Catholic bog-dweller -- from Tory Island); or what the 18th-century Court Party had done when accepting the similarly ill-intended nickname 'Whig' (Scottish cattle rustler in the Borders, presumably Protestant); or what one British regiment had done in the First World War when proudly accepting the Kaiser's nickname for it, the 'Old Contemptibles'; or what American Negroes had done in the 1960s when agreeing to accept the then-rude term `Blacks.'

Alas for my wee joke, the term 'racist' had (unknown to me - I had no TV in those academic days) been so thoroughly demonized in the late-twentieth-century years of multicultural propaganda and growing peecee tyranny that my effort to stand jocularly proud for 'scientific racism' did not amuse. Even the brave Phil Rushton preferred at that time to be called just a 'race scientist' or `raciologist.'

So on went the thinking cap and (helped by a pal - thanks, Stuart!) I came up with 'race realism,' which has proved more acceptable -- even though I believe it may have enjoyed some degree of usage among Italian Fascists of the 1930s.

I have never come across 'racial realism.'

MAJOR BLOW TO SOCIO-ENVIRONMENTALISM AS HEAD START OPTIMISM WASTES AT LEAST 3 BILLION POUNDS

No educational effects at all could be detected by researchers at the University of Durham in 35,000 schoolchildren given pre-school exercises of the Head Start type (ThisIsLondon, 27 viii; Times, 28 viii; ITV News, 28 viii). Non-reading of The g Factor and a blindly ideological pursuit of environmentalist ideas about intelligence and achievement, costing taxpayers 3B, had been enthusiastically endorsed over the six years of the project by NuLabourites Tony Blair and Gordon Brown. The researchers, led by bright-eyed educationist Mrs Christine Merrell, 35, had possibly hoped to draw a veil over their results by presenting them at an obscure academic conference in Hungary.

Several press estimates were that this and related projects had actually squandered 21Billion since Labour came to power in 1997. Jill Kirby, of the centre-Right think-tank the Centre for Policy Studies, said: "This Government has poured money into pre-school education and childcare. We can now see the money has been largely wasted. We have been told this is important to ensure children are more ready to enter school. This research shows that has not happened, and that daycare for children has no educational value."

INTELLECTUALS IN DENIAL

As Edinburgh's Book Festival (the largest such festival in the world) assembled some 200 (mainly) greybeards in its [secret-formula - no cameras allowed] `Spiegeltent' in gracious Charlotte Square to hear unheard-of science journalists and Cambridge philosophers drone on about the dangers of IQ, heritability and eugenics (while supposedly discussing `nature vs nurture'), the wife and I were able to put the boot in from near the very beginning from our drink-laden table, pointing out that the `mysterious' difference between the USA and Canada in crime rate was simply due to race, that Steven Pinker's abjuring race was solely at the behest of his publisher (Penguin), that free will was dependent on intelligence (as adjudicated by American and British courts), that Professor Nick Mackintosh (Cambridge) had cleared Sir Cyril Burt of fraud, and that the wretched panellists were totally ignorant not only of the most famous British psychologist, behaviourist and hereditarian who had died almost exactly ten years previously (it was an elderly lady in the audience who correctly identified race realist Hans Eysenck) but also of Luigi Cavalli-Sforza, Arthur Jensen, Richard Lynn and Phil Rushton.

As we made our moves before an astonished audience, giving better value than all the panellists put together, we were supported a little by Professor Ian Deary, seated with us, who said genetic factors partly determined IQ (by 1%....) at age 80, and sprucely-haircutted Reader Tim Bates - both of E.LU.'s soggy Psychology Department - leaving altogether an unforgettable mark on the prettier girls in the audience and on decrepit `philosopher' Simon Blackburn (q.v., above).

Amazingly, the whole show of ignoramuses and ignoracists had been paid for by Britain's state-funded Economic and Social Research Council - showing that there was plenty of room for Daft `Not the Conservative Party' Dave Cameron to make some of John Redwood's recommended tax cuts. But at least it allowed Shiou-yun and me to see that we were - even in such an `intellectual' audience - at about 1-in-a-100 (only a couple of people had raised their hands together with us when the audience was asked to say whether we backed `nature') (though `nurture' had no hand-waving supporters at all, so there is yet hope).

Till ten years previously, I had thought I was well-entrenched in Britain's bottom right-libertarian 10%. One lives and re-learns the same feeling of isolation that made me love Albert Camus and Colin Wilson at age 18 and even sympathize with Jean-Paul Sartre (so long as I read him - probably only half-comprehendingly, but I could understand his defence in La Naus‚e of a persecuted paedophile - in French). Our next Festival stops? - `Measure for Measure,' `Crime and Punishment,' `Trojan Women,' `Dido and Aeneas,' Niall Ferguson and the San Francisco Symphony Orchestra.


MORE `INTELLECTUAL' DENIAL

The ongoing relevance of The g Factor was nicely demonstrated on the tenth anniversary of my E.LU. sacking by the book's website (in France) being blocked to readers by the libraries of the middle-class Marxite north-London borough of Camden.


SUPER-INTELLECTUAL SHAT ON BY VANITY FAIR

Demonstrating the progress of the welfare- and handicap-loving bleeding-heart job-seeking fraternity, US Jewish liberal-left playwright Arthur Miller, the champion of freedom and responsibility who had died in 2004 at 88 (leaving fourth wife Agnes Barley, a 33-year-old artist), found himself under fire from the remorselessly left-moving glamour mag Vanity Fair (ix 2007) for having hushed up that he had a Down's Syndrome son, born in 1966 to his third wife, the 12-year younger photogenic photographer Inge Morath. In fact, Miller had paid handsomely for top-quality institutional treatment for his son, Daniel, and the boy had gone on to do well -- eventually living quasi-independently, showing no resentment at his treatment and inheriting equally with Miller's other children; but this was not good enough for welfarist attack dogs, who blamed the great moralist for `walking away from a challenge.'


SEXPERT SHOULD NOT BE STIFLED - ETHICS PROF

After four years of being vilified by self-declared transsexual `women'* (once men) for saying they might only be transvestites with an "erotic fascination" with being female, Northwestern University's Professor J. Michael Bailey (sometimes compared to Helmuth Nyborg for non-peecee outspeaking on sex, to the annoyance of his university) found he was at least getting support from a top medical ethics expert, Dr Alice Dreger (New York Times, 21 viii).

* The recent fashion has been for such `women' to call themselves and kin `transgendered,' apparently trying to abandon the classical transsexual-transvestite distinction. One day they will perhaps read Knickers Galore, which documents a full-blown transvestite fetishism, developing from age 5 in a fully masculine youth who included burglary, arson and heavy drinking among his crimes.


LEFT'S ANTI-INTELLECTUAL TERROR BEGINNINGS DOCUMENTED

As Czar Lenin and comrades found they had beaten the White Russian armies c. 1922, they turned their attention to putting thousands of their country's intellectuals on to boats despatching them to Germany and Scandinavia - these were the lucky ones, for a few years later unwanted scholars would be given not a ship ticket but a bullet (Chronicle of Higher Education, 17 viii). Ideological difference from communism was of little importance: "Lenin targeted lawyers, engineers, historians, theologians, and more, even ordering a detailed investigation into "anti-Soviet professors of the Archaeological Institute." For the most part, his victims talked like Silver Age liberals and Christian socialists, not hostile White Russian anti-Bolsheviks."


STUDYING EYE COLOUR IS `RACIST' - LATEST LEFT-LOONERY

Black Grauniad columnist Aida Edemariam was shocked by claims of blue-eyed people (think Adolf Hitler, Stephen Hawking, Stephen Fry, sexy 19-year-old `elfin' supermodel Lily Cole (still deferring her place at King's College, Cambridge), David Beckham) being more intelligent (21 viii). Apparently: `Scientists at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, found a hitherto unobserved link between eye-colour and levels of intelligence. Blue-eyed people, they claimed, are more studious, more strategic, more focused, and thus out-perform brown-eyed people in exams. However, those with brown eyes can apparently get their own back -- by being able to run faster.'

Such findings/speculations bordered on racism, said the prognathous, Rastafarian hair-styled, brown-eyed Aida. `It is..not unreasonable to assume that in Louisville many brown-eyed people are also dark-skinned people who have not had the educational opportunities of their white brethren. Even if they are not, perhaps Rowe and co. should have thought twice before announcing their observations -- or at least addressed the whiff of racism, and the great potential for self-fulfilling stereotyping, that underlies them.'

Yet Aida probably had little need to worry her not-so-pretty head, for the Louisville work very likely had rather little to do with the g factor but instead replicated the 1974 studies of M. Worthy (Ecology, Sex and Race: Keys to Human and Animal Behaviour), who found that blue-eyed people were better in positions requiring initiative (e.g. in `forward', attacking positions in football) whereas brown-eyed people were better at reactivity (e.g. in defensive football positions) as also at tasks requiring speed and sociability. Of course, such effects were weak (it proved hard to replicate them in Edinburgh U.) - though they might still just be enough to upset Aida, given their pre-peecee mention of the latterly dreaded topic of `race'.

Emeritus Professor Joanna Rowe's work had apparently stuck fairly close to Worthy's claims and made a link only to academic achievement, rather than to IQ or general intelligence (Western Mail, 20 viii). Einstein, who never completed high school and notoriously shot to fame from the Swiss Patent Office, was brown-eyed - as must be hosts of intelligent and successful Jews.


EDUCATIONAL SELECTION BY IQ SUPPORTED

Just ten years after I was sacked by the LUniversity of Edinburgh for too much realism about IQ, race, sex, paedophilia etc., what should Time publish (16 viii, John Cloud, `Are we failing our geniuses?') but a feature article backing grade skipping and even mentioning the IQ work of dedicated pro-streaming Australian educationist Miraca Gross which I had publicized in The g Factor. The article specially praised the elite Davidson Academy (housing 45 kids - 26 White males, just 2 Blacks -- on the campus of University of Nevada, Reno) and concluded: "Ideally, school systems should strive to keep their most talented students through a combination of grade skipping and other approaches (dual enrollment in community colleges, telescoping classwork without grade skipping) that ensure they won't drop out .. We shouldn't be so wary of those who can move a lot faster than the rest of us."

RACE REALISM SURFACES AMONG IQ-BASHERS

For reasons best known to itself (silly season? world economics making even less sense than usual to economists [with the neosocialist pound being exchanged for more than two dollars]?), the Economist (2 viii) reported a genetically based race difference - with the Swiss showing better `emotional memory' than Rwandans.


CHURCHILL WAS RACE REALIST

Britain's `Greatest Briton' - as voted by BBC TV viewers in 2002 (beating Isambard Brunel, Princess Diana, Charles Darwin, William Shakespeare and Sir Isaac Newton, and winning almost half of the million votes cast) - was worried about increasing "coloured" [mainly Black] immigration into Britain of the 1950's, it transpired as historians ploughed through Government documents released under the sixty-year rule. Sunday Telegraph, 5 viii:

Winston Churchill considered blocking all immigration to Britain because he feared a growing "coloured population" was posing a threat to Britain's social stability. Churchill, then 79, told Cabinet colleagues that he did not "want a parti-coloured UK". At a Cabinet meeting on February 3, 1954, the prime minister told colleagues: "Problems will arise if many coloured people settle here. Are we to saddle ourselves with colour problems in UK?" Churchill said immigrants were attracted to Britain by the welfare state and he said: "Public opinion in UK won't tolerate it once it gets beyond certain limits."


SEX REALISM

Female mice switch from female to totally male behaviour (including attempts at rear-entry copulation) if engineered to lack just one single gene (designated TRPC2), Harvard researchers reported (Nature, 5 viii) - though pious scientists reassured paparazzi that the story was sure to be more complicated -- with multiple interaction effects -- in homo sapiens.


RACE REALISM

Daily Telegraph, 3 viii:

A new fingerprinting technique that can identify the race and sex, and possibly the diet of suspects has been developed. Scientists have shown that using a gelatine-based gel and high-tech chemical analysis can provide significant clues to a person's identity even if police do not hold existing fingerprint records.

{Top social anthropologists were doubtless rushed to the BBC to deny the existence of races; and peecee-propagandized pseudo-biological `scientists' -- arise, professorial Steves Jones and Rose! -- would have soon followed to deny that any link between race and fingerprints could be genetic.}


MULTICULTURALISM BREAKING UP

While British and American troops tried vainly to enforce their political masters' illusion of multiculti Iraq and the domestically discredited Rev. Bliar got an international bishopric in piety to bring some semblance of peace (cf. Northern Ireland) to ex-Palestine, Tintin and Poirot's Belgium - which Britain created in 1830 and went to war with Germany to defend in 1914, and which housed Brussels, the very capital city of European multicultilunacy - was on the brink of splitting into its two main ethnic parts (Flemings and Walloons) (Sunday Telegraph, 5 viii).


PEECEE LUNACY COMPILED

As the paedohysterical 100-day search for the disappeared 3-year-old Madeleine McCann continued to disrupt the lives of all and sundry in the Portuguese resort of Praia da Luz (not least including `Maddi's' doctor parents, who found themselves under suspicion of murdering their child), Washington announced the sorry truth that British troops had been beaten in Basra (having spent more time on multicultural social work than on killing Muesli insurgents) and the British Government received po-faced a report claiming that Black underachievement needed remedying by creating Black role models (who were in short supply because..).


BLACKS COST BILLIONS

A solemn "independent" report (mysteriously called REACH, by 25 overwhelmingly sub-academic `experts') commissioned by Britain's terminally incompetent and peecee NuLabour Government on Black underachievement quite failed to mention IQ* and demanded multi-million-pound expenditure to over-promote Bleck men so they could be `role models' for Bleck druggie sexist rapist youf; but its Annex 3 did at least allow the estimate that the cost of Black stupidity ooops underachievement to the UK economy over the subsequent 50 years would be œ24 BILLION {doubtless a gross underestimate}.

* The risible report equally made no mention of the 807-page, 700K pounds, 1985 `Swann Report' to HMG, Education for All, with its Chapter 3 on `Achievement and Underachievement' and its Annex D by Cambridgemen Nick Mackintosh and Nick Mascie-Taylor, `The IQ Question' - reviewed critically by me ("The trouble in our schools is not racism but ageism") in Personality & Individual Differences 8 (1987).

** The new NuLabour manager, one-eyed three-dinners Grumpy Gordon Brown, had been so busy making excuses for NuLabour failures to prepare for floods and foot-and-mouth, annoying the Russians, enforcing `education' till age 18, sucking up to the European Union*** and tearing up the UK-US special relationship that he had not had time to notice this astonishingly witless and ill-informed product of Rev. Bliar's and hair-shirted overweight mother of four `Ms' Kelly's extravagance needed binning.

India's 138M Mueslis, left behind as brighter co-religionists fled to Pakistan as India got its useless independence from Britain in 1947, turned out to be struggling. BBC, 9 viii: "Indian Muslims are..largely illiterate and poor. At just under 60%, the community's literacy rate is lower than the national average of 65%. Only half of Muslim women can read and write. As many as a quarter of Muslim children in the age-group 6-14 have either never attended school or dropped out. They are also poor - 31% of Muslims are below the country's poverty line, just a notch above the lowest castes and tribes who remain the poorest of the poor." {Naturally the Beeb blamed the phenomenon on India's Hindu-dominated Government - which admittedly did employ large numbers of Indians as civil servants and railwaymen in its `PermitRaj.'}


BOYCOTT BLASTED

In a major blow to British academics and their loopy-leftist trade union, the University and College Union, Jewish groups had little difficulty raising 300 American university presidents to condemn the proposed boycott of Israel's universities (see previously) (10 viii).


CATHOLICS STAND UP TO YAGS

Responding to the injunctions of the UK's deranged homosexualist NuLabour government and its `devoted Catholic' fatty Ms Kelly (see above), Catholic Care, a leading British Catholic adoption agency, announced that it would cease operations in the light of the recently imposed repressive laws that they must allow children to be adopted by homosexual partners. Catholic Care thus became the first victim among the religious social agencies to announce that it could no longer operate under the Sexual Orientation Regulations (SORs) that proponents had claimed would put an end to "discrimination" in the UK. The agency, which had proudly operated for a century, announced that a vote of its trustees decided to end its services that had placed about 20 children a year into new families.


HARVARD PROF. RENEWS WARNING AGAINST PEECEE-MULTICULTURALISM

E Pluribus Unum: Diversity and Community in the 21st Century [PDF] was the latest from Harvard sociology professor Robert Putnam (see above, x 2006) whose five-year study, which made hash of the politically correct clich‚, "Our diversity is our strength" (VDare, 9 viii, Pat Buchanan). After 30,000 interviews, Putnam concluded and reported, against his own progressive convictions, that ethnic and racial diversity can be devastating to communities and destructive of community values. The greater the diversity the greater the distrust, said Putnam. In racially and ethnically mixed communities, not only do people not trust strangers, they do not even trust their own kind. They withdraw into themselves, they support community activity less, and they vote less. "People living in ethnically diverse settings appear to 'hunker down,' that is, to pull in like a turtle," wrote Putnam. They tend to "withdraw even from close friends, to expect the worst from their community and its leaders, to volunteer less, give less to charity and work on community projects less often, to register to vote less, to agitate for social reform more but have less faith they can actually make a difference, and to huddle unhappily in front of the television."


BLACKS GET TOUGH ON SLAVERY!!

Two hundred years after Britain (which never tolerated slavery) banned the slave trade, and 140 years after America outlawed slavery, the west-African country of Mauritania (where possibly millions of slaves were inherited as property at birth) moved to institute jail sentences for slavers and `slavery apologists' - slavery had been nominally criminalized in 1981 but no penalty had been assigned or implemented (Daily Telegraph, 10 viii).


COGNIWALLAH SNUFFS IT

The press dutifully obituarized the simple-minded founder of `rational-emotive' and thus of `cognitive-behavioural' therapy (requiring devotees to `think positively' and to count up to ten if they felt anger coming on), bespectacled and surely Jewish Albert Ellis, 93, who had begun his life as a shy New York schoolboy and later accountant, disciplining himself to approach women on Central Park benches and thus to become a `sex therapist' before embarking on his life-time mission of leading psychologists away from Freud, Adler, Darwin and Galton-though he had at the last enough sense to make a third wife in 2005 of his 40-year-younger prot‚g‚e, Debbie Joffe (D. Torygraph, 10 viii).


PEECEE POLICE BLASTED

As West Midlands Police and the Crown Prosecution Service complained to the TV watchdog Ofcom that a Channel 4 program had been unkind to Mueslis, theyfound themselves under fire even from the liberal-left Observer (12 viii), where columnist Andrew Anthony wrote that it `beggared belief' to say that Channel 4's summary of undercover-filmed mosque rantings against "kaffirs" (non-Muslims) (who needed beheading) was some kind of incitement to racial hatred (with which charge the peecee-addled fuzz had not themselves proceeded).


FLAGRANT ANTI-WHITE-ENGLISH PREJUDICE REMARKED

The increasing arrangement by British authorities of jobs and training schemes that would accept only ethnic minority applicants was remarked by columnist Leo McKinstry (Sunday Express, 12 v iii) who wrote:

"The Left in Britain have seized on mass immigration and multiculturalism as a battering ram to destroy the society they despise. They once sought to change our country through economic revolution. That failed with the Winter of Discontent and the downfall of communism. But demographic change through migration has proved far more damaging."

{It was the advertising of training posts for Black psychologists only which had led me to a key decision some twenty years previously. From Brand for the Burning, Chapter X: "By the mid-1980's, the British Psychological Society was plainly becoming committed to the insane asylum of 'multiculturalism', 'affirmative action', anti-nuclear protest and, of course, opposition to 'sexist language.' In particular, the Society started running advertisements for positions that were open to Black applicants only.

I wrote in to the their house organ, the BPS Bulletin [later to become The Psychologist] to say that I would be interested to learn when the first advertisements would appear for 'Whites Only' psychology jobs in London's [notoriously racist] East End. The BPS would not publish my jocular missive, and all I received, together with my returned letter, was a scruffy compliment slip from one Ray Bull. That decided me: the BPS would not hear me, but the Eugenics Society would, so I resigned my twenty-year Membership of the BPS and signed up for eugenics."


RACE REALISM REVISITS OZ

Charles Murray, visiting Australia at the invitation of the Centre for Independent Studies, told the Australian Broadcasting Company's Radio PM audience that, while the environment was generally "very important" for intelligence, he could think of "no good environmental explanation" for the intellectual superiority of Jews (especially Ashkenazi Jews) (`Genes make Jews smarter: researcher,' 9 viii). Traditionally egalitarian in its official public philosophy, Australia had been the scene of heated confrontations when Art Jensen and Hans Eysenck had lectured on race and IQ in the 1970s.


PAKISTANI PAEDOPHILIA

The continuing* enthusiasm of South Asians (in this case the Srindopakeshis of the Indian subcontinent) for paedophilic practices surfaced as two `British' men of Pakistani origin were found guilty in the Crown Court of my Preston birthplace of `grooming' two under-16-year-old girls for sex by plying them with drink and drugs - the men pleaded guilty to achieving their objectives, having dished out Ecstasy tablets before having sex with the girls (who were `in care') on the back seat of a car and at an address in Blackburn, Lancashire (Times, 11 viii).

Zulfqar Hussain, 46, and Qaiser Naveed, 32, from east Lancashire, were each jailed for five years and eight months - rather less than the British press expected comedian Chris Langham to get for paedophilic downloading. According to campaigners against Srindopakeshi practices, parents of the hundreds of near-pubertal girls trafficked within the `Asian' community claim that criminal networks are able to prey on young girls because the authorities are reluctant to tackle the issue for fear of upsetting race relations in areas of the North West having large ethnic minority communities. Pakipaedophilia was usually blamed by race slumpers on Pakistani youth needing to wait through their teen years for their parents to make an arranged marriage for them with a virgin from their mother country - but this excuse clearly did not apply in the case of Hussain and Naveed.

Not to be outdone by Lancashire, Yorkshire soon came up with its own sex scandal as the city of Wakefield paid a œ1M out-of-court settlement to six social workers whom it had sacked after they complained of 12-year-olds being allowed to have sex in its `care homes' and of paedophiles being placed in homes with vulnerable youngsters.

* Adult x child sex was common in the past in India and Pakistan. In India of the 1920's, even seven year-old girls were deemed sexually ravenous - not least because of earlier graded exposure to incest in the family.


ROME'S END DUE TO WELL-INTENDED IMMIGRATION

Although, in 4th-century Rome, the elite of the Western Empire and their Goth immigrants had made happy common cause in Christianity after Constantine's victory at the Battle of Milvan Bridge (312 A.D.), conflict between Rome and the Goths began in the Eastern Roman Empire in 376 as Goths fleeing the Huns streamed across the Danube hoping to join their fellow Goths in the fertile service of Rome (Daily Telegraph (Review), 11 viii, Harry Mount, reviewing A. Barbero, The Day of the Barbarians).

In their first fifty miles trekking, the tall and blond, if shabby Goths were well received; but when the wave of immigrants reached Marcianople (today's Devnya, in Bulgaria), the good burghers refused to open their gates so the starving newcomers fought their way in, stripping Roman troops of their armour and weapons in the process. The inevitable result was the 378 bloodbath at the Battle of Adrianople, Thrace (today, western Turkey) where the Goths inflicted on the Romans their biggest defeat since Hannibal had crossed the Alps to win at Cannae 600 years earlier.

Subsequently, the Eastern Empire, unable to push the immigrants back into Germany, managed to push them further west, where fellow Goths in the Roman Army rose to support them, with the Goth career soldier Alaric sacking Rome in 410. The rest was history - including Rome being sacked by the Vandals in 455 - and by 476 the Western Roman Empire collapsed. {A story for our times if hordes of Mueslis fleeing the horrors of the Middle East are pushed on by Greece, Italy and France to Britain and America?....}


DROP THE PILOT, SAYS Bell AUTHOR

Scores on the famous IQ-type Scholastic Aptitude Test no longer added anything to the prediction of college grades, said the lively-minded Charles Murray, co-author of The Bell Curve (The American, 13 vii). This might have been because the USA was already fully cognitively stratified, he ventured; or because rich parents provided coaching on the SAT for their kids as well as similarly boosting educational attainment.

Anyhow, Murray reckoned the SAT should be abandoned as pointless for all and dispiriting for those who did poorly on it. What Murray neglected, however, was that it was the rise of multiple choice testing in universities that had made intelligence less relevant than rote memory and hard work, thus opening the higher ranks of further education to girls and the otherwise mediocre. Sadly, the ingenious Murray, instead of keeping IQ in place to monitor its sorry irrelevance to modern university `achievement,' preferred to let the universities off the hook.

Certainly, his preparedness to join typical critics of IQ in slamming its importance was at odds with the increasing use of IQ testing by British firms to make up for the uselessness of university assessments (see previously -- SOCIALISM BOOSTS PSYCHOTESTING ) and by top English universities to discriminate between candidates for places in law and medicine (almost all of whom by 2007 were weighing in with equal achievement scores - 3 `A'-grade A-Levels) (Daily Telegraph, 16 viii, `Universities rely on aptitude tests to select candidates').

Even a weird `anti-racist' article in the Times (16 viii, by three-time Commonwealth table tennis champion, failed Labour parliamentary candidate and sports writer, ignoracist Balliol product Matthew Syed, who showed no sign of having read The g Factor or anything else from the London School) admitted that "the kind of intelligence revealed by IQ tests is crucial to one's prospects in the modern world" - suggesting IQ could only be ignored by dumbed-down postmodern universities teaching a diet of memorizable checklists using postgraduate student instructors.


MUESLI MAP

A handy guide to Europe's Muesli problems showed that Britain had got off pretty lightly compared to its eastern neighbours - especially compared to Germany where perennially lowish-IQ Mueslis (coming as slave labour from Turkey) had "rampant" unemployment and welfare-dependency yet had been allowed to congregate in the centre of Berlin in a hermetically sealed community (where little German was spoken despite thousands of massively expensive state-funded initiatives to `integrate' them) and remained in their unreconstructed conservative misogyny `more Turkish than the Turks.

A WORLD FULL OF SURPRISES FOR PEECEE

A research 'discovery' that only 45% of Black kids obtained five or more passes in Britain's bog-standard General Certificate of Secondary Education exams, compared to a 64% average for all other racial groups, amazed Warwick University's Centre for Educational Development Appraisal, which promptly attributed the result to 'racism', 'racist perceptions,' 'racist expectations' as if such ingenious excuses and lies of 1967 sociology could still pass muster in 2007 (Daily Telegraph, 27 vii). Needless to say, no IQ tests seemed to have been used in the research by the idiotic money-grubbing 'researchers.'




BRITISH 'EDUCATION' PLUMBS NEW DEPTHS

As it came to light that Britain's state schoolteachers - unfailingly condemnatory of IQ testing -- had been implementing (with local authority and Government encouragement) a U.S. approach which classified children as primarily visual, auditory or kinaesthetic and treated the kids according to these "learning styles," the scheme (called VAK) was said to have no evidence in its favour despite 30 years of research, to be theoretically incoherent and to have no neuroscientific basis - top pharmacologist Baroness Greenfield called it "nonsense." (Times Education Supplement, 27 vii; Sunday Telegraph, 29 vii).

From London, the Institute of Education's Professor Frank Coffield, a critic of 'learning style' theories, added: "As well as VAK, I came across [in my recent research] labelling such as 'activists' versus 'reflectors,' 'globalists versus 'analysts,' and 'left brainers' versus 'right brainers.' There is no scientific justification for any of these terms." Just as societies that lose their religion end up with superstitions like astrology and moralistic authoritarianism such as PeeCee, so societies that 'lose their intelligence' (as Quinn McNemar once put it - see Epilogue to The g Factor) end up with the Thurstone-derived nonsense of Harvard's Howie Gardner's 'multiple intelligences' and countless rivals such as VAK.




RUSSIA ENCOURAGES YOUTH PROCREATION

As part of a new Russian nationalism under the popular dictator Vladimir Putin, Russi's 'Nashi' youth movement was found organizing 10,000-strong fortnight-long love-ins for the country's overwhelmingly White youngsters with a strong stress on rapid progress to marriage and procreation (Daily Mail, 29 vii). Unlike Britain's spineless civil servants, academics and political class, Russia's intellectuals were free to deplore the possibility of the "extinction of Russians as a race" (St Petersburg Times, 24 vii).



PROFESSOR TO FIGHT FOR RACE REALISM

John Marshall Law School, Chicago, faced a $1M lawsuit from aggrieved professor John Gorby, to whom it had given a hard time after he had mused (to a Jewish student) whether poor Black achievement on law courses might be due to the Blacks' Baptist religion being oriented to emotion rather than argument (American Renaissance, 1 viii 2007).



ISRAELI MINISTER IN RACISM ROW

After he queried Israel's monthly admission of 600 Black Ethiopian Christians (but claiming original Jewish ancestry), Interior Minister Meir Sheetrit found himself charged with racism by leaders of the 100,000-strong 'Falasha' Ethiopian community that had been allowed to build up in Israel since 1980 (Daily Telegraph, 3 viii). "Who needs them?" he asked in an interview with The Jerusalem Post. {The Ethiopians had boosted Israel's numbers against their faster-breeding Arab neighbours; but many remained unemployed and on benefits.}

HIGH-IQ EARN MORE, SPEND MORE

New American data came to light confirming IQ at age18 to predict higher working-lifetime earnings (with each IQ point being worth an extra $500 annually) (MSN.money, 10 vii) but also finding higher-IQ people at 65 to be apparently no wealthier than others - perhaps because they had spent more, given more to charity or invested in better pensions.


TINTIN: HILARITY AHOY!

As Britain's crazed `Commission for Racial Equality' raised objections to the 76-year-old Tintin au Congo kids' comic book (about a ginger-quiffed cub-scout reporter and his dog Snowy) by Belgian author Georges Remi (aka Herge) being available in British bookshops and libraries, British sales of the `Black-denigrating' book (available worldwide in twenty languages) rocketed in one week by 4,000% as people added it to their collectors-item hoards of golliwogs and hair-straiteners.

Further fun lay ahead since the censorious CRE would presumably, once it was alerted, move to ban America's first home-grown novel, Huckleberry Finn, which had the N-word on every second page; and then to ban the plainly race-realist ramblings of Linnaeus, Hume, Kant,* Rousseau, Disraeli, Darwin and Stanford's Genoa-born top population geneticist Luigi Luca Cavalli-Sforza** (not to mention Francis Galton, Harvard's William McDougall and Edinburgh LUniversity's George Combe*** and Robert Knox****).

The Congo story placed Tintin among ignorant, chimp-like natives, who could not distinguish between a cold and a terminal fever and who ended up worshipping the young journalist and his pet dog as gods. Remi eventually admitted to being embarrassed by the book, which long remained unpublished in Britain, and the 2005 English version came with a health warning and a foreword explaining the work's `colonial context.' In fact, the real villain in Tintin's Congo was not an African but that well known Italian stereotype, mobster Al Capone.. A film based on 23 of the 24 Tintin albums was thought to be in the pipeline from star director Steven Spielberg (BBC, 10 v 2007).

By 2007, Agatha Christie's Ten Little Niggers was sold retitled as And Then There Were None.. Enid Blyton's image had taken a battering in recent years, to the extent that the black ragdoll Golliwog in the Noddy books had been replaced by a character called Goblin in reprints.

Other suggestions for authors `needing banning' were supplied by anti-censorship columniste India Knight (Times, 15 vii), who pointed out that "Herge's oeuvre included yellow Chinese people, bright red Indians, sinister Soviets, creepy Incas, fat, hysterical women who never stop singing, thick people, absent-minded professors, caricatured sailors."

CRAZED COMMISSARIAT COMPLAINS OVER U.K. CABINET

Confirming that the lunatics were running the asylum at Britain's White-hating Commission for Racial Equality, bossman Trevor Phillips phoned No. 10, Downing Street and expressed himself as "hopping mad" at there being only one Black (Baroness Scotland) in Labour P.M. Gordon Brown's new Cabinet, and at the two serving Muslims not receiving ministerial salaries (Daily Telegraph, 16 vii; Guardian, 16 vii). Phillips had last come to public attention in June when his attempted joke that the late and much revered Queen Mother might have had to wear a colostomy bag fell flat before an audience at Imperial College, London, leading even a Black correspondent to write to the Sun newspaper (18 vi 2007) that "clearly his brain's gone."


HORMONES YIELD SEX DIFFERENCE IN MATH

The well-known measure of `ring finger length - index finger length', which is linked to masculinity, butch lesbianism and aggression (except in the minds of bisexual Grauniadistas like my one-time student Becky Gardiner), was found by Mark Brosnan (Bath University) to link to relative superiority in mathematical as opposed to verbal ability on the SAT, another well-known psychological sex difference.

Amazon editorial review of a related 2005 book ("Digit Ratio: A Pointer to Fertility, Behavior and Health") which had gone unremarked by the West's sickly peecee press:

"Could the length of your fingers indicate a predisposition to breast cancer? Or musical genius? Or homosexuality? In Digit Ratio, John T. Manning posits that relative lengths of the second and fourth digits in humans (2D:4D ratio) does provide such a window into hormone- and sex-related traits.

It has been known for more than a century that men and women tend to differ in the relative lengths of their index (2D) and ring (4D) fingers, which upon casual observation seem fairly symmetrical. Men on average have fourth digits longer than their second digits, while women typically have the opposite. Digit ratios are unique in that they are fixed before birth, while other sexually dimorphic variables are fixed after puberty, and the same genes that control for finger length also control the development of the sex organs.

The 2D:4D ratio is the only prenatal sexually dimorphic trait that measurably explains conditions linking testosterone, estrogen, and human development; the study of the ratio broadens our view of human ability, talent, behavior, disposition, health, and fertility. DAFT DAVE'S DOOM

Druggy, tieless, grammar school-bashing and trendily `green' National Health Service-worshipper `Dave' Cameron, who could not bring himself to say the words `Black,' `Muslim' or `IQ' took his traitorous Not-The-Conservative-Party to third place in both of two parliamentary by-elections - even though he had apparently gone so far as to bribe a handsome Asian businessman to defect from Labour and become the `Conservative' candidate within a few days of the local hero of `diverse' Ealing donating 5K pounds to Labour and being snapped together with a beaming Tony Blair. PR-person Dave, who had entirely failed to offer FREEDOM FROM NEOSOCIALISM, made the by-election exercise a spectacular personal defeat by listing his candidates on the ballot papers as belonging to "David Cameron's Conservative Party."

After a century of the grammar schools achieving upward intergenerational mobility for lower-class kids capable of it, and a half-century of Labour demolishing the grammar schools and declining to provide specialist technical education for lower-IQ kids, the Labour minister in charge of the party's manifesto, Ed Miliband (the son of a Marxist) announced what could only be, in context, a fresh assault in Britain on the very idea of a university (Guardian, 23 vii): "[Only] eighteen per cent of people go to university from the poorest backgrounds. That figure has got to rise. It has got to be one of the central objectives of a Labour government."

BRAIN SIZE CORRELATED WITH INTELLIGENCE - NEW REVIEW

Bringing together 20 studies involving 1,530 subjects (Pakistan Tribune, 23 vi 2007), Dr. Michael A. McDaniel of the Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, U.S.A., concluded that the long-envisaged moderate correlation between brain volume and intelligence held firm in human adults - especially in women {for a sizeable part of the male brain is taken up by the larger male ego ooops the male's greater spatial ability}.

{This finding had been reported in Science Daily in 2005 (18 vi) but never appeared in mainstream Western media. That it had to emerge as `news' via Pakistan two years later was a notable tribute to PeeCee's tyrannical domination of the West's media - still evidently following the line of Marxite Stephen Jay Gould that there was no such brain-IQ relation.}

A thoughtful consideration of Williams Syndrome -- which is genetic, affects 1 child in 7,500, lowers brain volume by 15% and IQ to around 65, but is accompanied by merry gregariousness -- was provided at Blue Ridge Now, 8 vii.


PRIME MINISTER BROWN ACCUSED OF SIDING WITH BNP

Following Gordon Brown's speech to the GMB union on 5 June in which he indicated that he wanted a claimed 200,000 new jobs to go to what he called "British workers," the London-based (Marylebone Road) civil liberties group Liberty and Law reported him to the Commission for Racial Equality (CRE). It asked the CRE to make a statement explaining that any job discrimination based on nationality is against the Race Relations Act and to investigate the policy of the Government to ensure that its employment policy was not designed to privilege British job seekers over any other people entitled to seek work in Britain. It also asked the CRE to obtain a statement from Mr Brown clearly indicating that nothing he has said was intended to suggest that British workers were to be given any priority whatsoever in obtaining employment over foreigners legitimately seeking the same work.


YES TO FAMILIES, BUT NO TO FREEDOM

Daft Dave's `Conservatives' got round to proposing the tax breaks for married couples long urged in McDougall NewsLetters and this diary/blog (Guardian, 10 vii). But the inevitable wailing of homosexual `partners,'* heteros living in sin and single-parent `mothers' had yet to be faced down - a task for which DD was lightly akiltered; and the Tory proposals were accompanied not by moves toward freedom (legalizing all speech, drugs and sex over age 12) but by a proposed moralistic clampdown, including hiking up taxation of alcohol and banning teenagers from gambling.

* Sure enough, within a day the `Conservatives' announced that their 20 pounds a-week handout would go equally to `civil partners.'

Apparently the billions of pounds required to finance the wheeze would come from compelling single parent mothers to seek and take work and thus come off benefits. Even if their child was as young as three, they would be required to demonstrate that, if not working, they were spending at least ten hours per week searching for work. {While such draconianism was refreshing, it would surely have been wiser to focus on getting the brighter teenage girls to marry and breed by promising free university places and nursery services if they could provide evidence of a baby born to them while in wedlock to a live-in husband.}

Prime Minister Gordon Brown promptly followed up the Conservatives' moralism by ruling out a super-casino and hiking the leaving age in Britain's state schools (i.e. propaganda factories for PeeCee) to 18.


SOCIALISM BOOSTS PSYCHOTESTING

After a decade of Britain's Labour Government expanding university intakes, it transpired that there were no less than 29 graduate applicants for every graduate-level job (in banking, insurance, finance, management etc.) (Times, 10 vii). Faced with the impossibility of choosing between so many 'qualified' candidates, 50% of employers had adopted use of psychometric testing at the application stage - and not just at the interview stage as formerly. Apparently, by this time, "92% of leading graduate employers [in Britain] thought psychometric tests were "useful" or "very useful" tools in selecting candidates."


JOYS OF DIVERSITY

As lame-duck P.M. Grumpy Gordon frenetically recycled ancient policies (more maths and discipline in schools etc.) and added new authoritarian wheezes (keeping kids in Britain''schools' till 18), it transpired that Labour had allowed the Metropolitan Police to be comprehensively infiltrated by terror-backing Mueslis - promoted to dangerous levels thanks to the Labour Government and the Macpherson Report.

{How much longer would it be before Britain concluded that New Labour was just as much of a disaster and danger as Old Labour had been recognized to be by 1979?}


LORD BLACK OF CROSSHARBOUR DEFENDED

As right-wing publishing tycoon, distinguished biographer and multi-millionaire Conrad Black was found guilty following a three-month trial (ending with the Chicago jury needing to deliberate for twelve days) of trousering a tiny percentage of the takings of the firm, Hollinger, which he had made the world's third-largest publisher, at least defence of him against gloating egalitarians and lefties was provided by two beautiful women (his wife and daughter), by Canada's CB-bankrolled National Post (14 vii) and by gifted columnist Mark Steyn in Macleans (13 vii).

The Montreal Gazette noted sympathetically that, charge with embezzling $92M, Lord Black had finally been found guilty on charges related to $3M (14 vii). A juror on the case told the Amherst Daily that several jurors had wanted CB cleared on not just nine but all thirteen of the charges he faced; and that jurors only learned, to their horror, after announcing their verdicts, of the savage punishments allowed by U.S. law for fraud cases - longer than would be served in the U.K. for murder.

In Britain, Scotland's Sunday Herald showed some sympathy for Lord Black (15 vii). Amidst all the complexities of this case of statist triumphalism against the world of business, it was notable that no testimony was given by anyone who had actually suffered from CB's activities - for the shareholders had benefited, and could have sold up at any time if they didn't like CB's deals; and that he would never have been convicted if tried in England - just as he had long practised without falling foul of Canadian law.

I wrote to the Post as follows: "Congratulations on your sympathetic defence of Lord Black! The conviction of such a major right-wing intellectual is surely the most outrageous piece of anti-elitism and state triumphalism since America's jailing ten years ago of Nobelist paedophile Carlton Gajdusek for his own equally minor and victimless derelictions."}

Amidst the near-overwhelming clamour of American, Australian and British newspapers against him, the Observer's columnist Peter Preston kindly remarked (15 vii):

"Conrad Black was a pretty decent newspaper proprietor in the eyes of most who worked for him. He didn't interfere overmuch. He paid necessary bills, rescued two Telegraphs from looming bankruptcy, and restored them to health. He gave lavish parties and welcomed the great and good to his boards. He wrote long political biographies and started at least one new paper (the National Post) that Canada needed. He was much more than 'Black, the fraudster' (as the Telegraph's main headline had it).

The issues that surround him, and will doubtless follow him to prison before long, aren't those of basic crookery - or, as a matter of fact, basic greed. More likely, they are the product of a totally split personality. Conrad One was a Bay Street Boy on the make, a young climber who found a business soulmate in David Radler and did a number of grubby or cynical - but lucrative - deals the pair used to giggle over. That was Callous Conrad, a crook fallen in with another crook. But Conrad Two was a political thinker, writer, talent spotter and impressario in a quite different league, almost from a different planet. Does Conrad One talk to Conrad Two? Obviously not; otherwise he might have taken a plea bargain. But let's, at least, keep the Mark Two model in a reasonable state, without too much jeering or gloating."

IQ DEFENDED (A BIT) BY OXFORD PROF.

Britain’s Funday Times (which once played a major part in trashing the reputation of Sir Cyril Burt) saw fit to hand the reviewing of a new ‘popular’ (and certainly massively publicized) anti-IQ book from Wiley DePublisher* (by a Santa Barbara biker, safe streets advocate, human rights attorney and freelance journalist, Stephen Murdoch, who had plainly never read The g Factor [which Wiley de-published in 1996]) to an Oxford professor of Eng. Lit., John Carey (8 vii).

In fact, Prof. Carey did a passable job of defending IQ against the “ruthless animosity”** of Murdoch’s book, settling for saying IQ was no more to blame for selective education in Britain and America than Zyklon B had been responsible for the Holocaust – such was academic moderation by 2007….; but Carey splendidly revealed his own incompetence to be even such a ‘moderate’ critic of the London School by suggesting that Blacks would do better on IQ if tests were re-written in Black English*** – when it had been known since Arthur Jensen’s work around 1970’s that Blacks actually do even worse on mental tests that are altogether non-verbal.

* The DePublisher had celebrated its 2007 bicentenary by taking over the elite Blackwell publishing house and bookstore chain (Oxford, London, Edinburgh), indicating what the future held for the head-in-the-sand ‘liberal’-left ‘academic’ sh*ts of British luniversities. Having failed to defend The g Factor in 1996, academics were to find PeeCee literally enforced on them by the censorious DePublisher.

** Interviewed by the Santa Barbara Independent (8 vii), Murdoch summarized his thesis about power-hungry psychometrician-psychologists (apparently without acknowledgment to Leon Kamin, Stephen Jay Gould or Dave Spart): “In the early 20th century, the fledgling field of psychology used IQ tests to gain access and power in America through persuading people it could measure an innate ability called intelligence.” Apparently, said the Independent, Murdoch’s book, IQ: A Smart History of a Failed Idea, detailed how the tests had been used in surprising ways: to turn immigrants back on Ellis Island, to decide whether to sexually sterilize unwed mothers, and even, in the case of Nazi Germany, to determine if handicapped people should be executed. {In fact the last, humanitarian use – exempting dullards from mens rea – remained the major official use of IQ test through the 20th century.

*** An IQ-type quiz using Black idiom was actually developed in the 1970's -- e.g. asking the testee to supply the meaning of 'going down on.' The final test turned out to show no correlation in Blacks with measures of either the g factor or educational attainment.
