BRITS WANT OUT

Delighting hearts at anti-peecee, anti-mass-immigration and anti-E.U. UKIP, a new Yougov poll in Britain found 54% saying they thought the U.K. should leave the E.U. so long as a free trade deal could be negotiated with the remaining members; only 31% said they wanted to stay in. Support for UKIP itself was found to be running at over 20% in the polls. UKIP was treated to a full-page spread, a cartoon (favourable) and a leading article (unfavourable) in the Times. By June 3rd, six Conservative members of the House of Lords, legendary England cricketer of the 1980s Geoff Boycott, born-again former Conservative M.P. and government Minister Jonathan Aitken and Count Nikolai Tolstoy (grandson of the novelist) had started urging voters to back UKIP. The lack of interest among British electors in tolerating `Europeans' - which term had become a euphemism for asylum seekers - so appalled the Grauniad's Polly Toynbee (4 vi) that she pondered education classes might be necessary to make voters worthy of democracy.. The Mail reckoned UKIP was on course to take a Euro-seat in Scotland.

{With both liberal-left and nationalist credentials, and enjoying wide popularity, leader-in-waiting Robert Kilroy-Silk seems set fair to become a new Oswald Mosely - though with a British sense of humour in place of Teutonic militarism, as hoped for in McDougall Newsletters. On the stump, K-S makes a virtue of his political incorrectness and attacks the pressmen of the "metropolitan media elite"; and UKIP'S leader in Wales deplores the cost to Britain's social services of looking after immigrants (which is plain in every G.P.'s surgery waiting room). UKIP looks likely to take a heavy toll from the `Tories' for their failure to back Enoch Powell. Even the leftie Guardian declared that, trading on `nationalist nostalgia', UKIP was not a `far-right' party and was not negligible (Catherine Fieschi, 3 vi); and Scotsman columnist Gerald Warner recognized with some glee that UKIP was the answer to Britain's generation of non-national liberals who had abandoned the death penalty and introduced mass immigration, mugging, steaming, roasting and Eurocratization. }

`MULTICULTURALISTS ARE THE REAL RACISTS'

A fine 2002 article (which I had missed) from robust and witty Canadian columnist Mark Steyn. The punchline: "What a pity we're no longer capable of being "judgmental" and "discriminating." We're told the old-school imperialists were racists, that they thought of the wogs as inferior. But, if so, they at least considered them capable of improvement. The multiculturalists are just as racist. The only difference is that they think the wogs can never reform: Good heavens, you can't expect a Muslim in Norway not to go about raping the womenfolk! Much better just to get used to it."

{Steyn also uged his Telegraph readers to vote for Kilroy-Silk, who in turn announced he would be backing Israel at Brussels, thus confirming his potential as a National Liberal.}

`WHY IGNORE THE g FACTOR?

The Brand, Constales & Kane chapter for The Scientific Study of General Intelligence (ed. Helmuth Nyborg, 2003) was made available on the net at http://bussorah.tripod.com/nyborg.html.

NEXT STOP SAUDI!

The case for seizing the conveniently located oil in Saudi Arabia and encouraging regime change before the country is openly in Al Qaeda hands - an idea mooted in this Diary in 2001/2 -- was made cogently (as always) by the brilliant Mark Steyn in the Spectator (5 vi).

BLAIR TO SLASH DULLARD IMMIGRANTS

In an amazing volte-face, for he had previously abjured racial quotas on immigration, Prime Minister Tony Blair privately told the Home Office to restrict immigration from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Bangladesh - countries which had been abusing `holidaymaker' schemes for Commonwealth countries to dump their population surpluses in Britain.

SPEARMAN HYPOTHESIS

A forthcoming article from me in Occidental Quarterly was scheduled to reveal the truly vast scale of the academic opposition that the London School of Psychology had faced from deconstructibabblers, feminazies and `anti-racists' (`Can scholarship `impact' on religion? - The case of The Bell Curve'). But what of the central question of scientific racism or race realism? Who was still pursuing the battle (begun by London School leader Charles Spearman) to have scientific acknowledgment of the centrality of real IQ differences to the largest race differences? An internet Google search for `race racism realism intelligence IQ' yielded a grand total of 688 websites. So who was considered by modern webpeople to be contributing most to the struggle about these conjoined topics?

MORE CENSORSHIP AT LUNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH

Distinguished Edinburgh University divinity professor David Wright, on the verge of retirement, had his speech for a graduation ceremony forbidden by E.LU. Principal Comrade Tim O'Shea - possibly because it lampooned the University for recruiting a `Knowledge Manager', i.e. Librarian. Letters of complaint about the insult to Professor Wright were not published by E.LU.'s Bulletin - "in the time-honoured tradition of free speech at Edinburgh," remarked Private Eye (11 vi).

LONDON SCHOOL IDENTIFIED

Above were displayed the intellectuals deemed on the net to contribute most to the race-realistic cause of the London School. But here is an attempt to find the people most identified on the net with the widest interests of the School. BBC IN DENIAL OVER UKIP WIN

As the anti-peecee United Kingdom Independence Party became the third largest in England & Wales, with 12 seats in the European `Parliament' (compared to 25 `Tory', 17 NuLabour and 11 for Liberal Democrats) the BBC did its best to ignore the party altogether, referring in its broadcasts merely to gains by `Other' parties. The Beeb also had no UKIP representative to comment on the outstanding success - unlike e.g. the Sun newspaper and Classic FM Radio which unhesitatingly went for soundbites to UKIP leader-in-waiting Robert Kilroy-Silk. It remained to be seen whether the BBC's peecee boss, the Labour Party, would match this hysteria or solve its problem by refusing the planned new Constitution for the European Union which would allow all race realists to be carted off to German jails without even the possibility of intervention by British courts.

TORY - UKIP ELECTORAL PACT THOUGHT NEEDED

As the Sun newspaper backed the United Kingdom Independence Party (tellings its readers to `just say NO' [to Europe, crime, mass immigration, PeeCee]) and UKIP recruited a Black female celebrity chef to placate its critics, topTimes columnist (and former editor) Simon Jenkins declared the Conservatives needed to "make peace" with UKIP, since they needed charismatic Kilroy-Silk more than K-S needed them (16 vi). `Anti-racists' were said to fear that K-S would become `the acceptable face of British racism' (Daily Mirror, 16 vi).

PAEDOHYSTERIA CLAIMS JUDGE

A 69-year-old English judge, a father of four, was found guilty of a few dozen downloadings of pictures of naked children of ages 8 to 11. The out-of-proportion devastation to his career, family relations and reputation was accompanied by the threat of a prison sentence. Relishing this latest catch for man-haters, London-based femininnie Michele Eliot, bossette of abusohysterical charity `Kidscape', delightedly `explained' that paedophiles were not usually `dirty old men in mackintoshes at the edge of school playgrounds' but teachers, lawyers, musicians, sports coaches, sports commentators, writers, priests etc. Thankfully, Sunday Telegraph columnist Nigel Farndale was prepared to record the gross injustice to the judge (20 vi).

TIMES A-CHANGING

The Times continued adjusting to Britain’s post-UKIP realities, with a second former editor, Lord Rees-Mogg, condemning the new European Constitution even as Prime Minister Blair signed up to it; and with columnist Janice Turner condemning mad-Muslim practices of heavy veiling and saying “the burka is a slave’s garb” which Western femininnies like Germaine Greer should be ashamed they had tolerated. As Britons polled 2-1 against the new constitution, Kilroy-Silk likened Blair to Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain who believed he had won a good deal from Hitler at Munich.

RACE REALISM REACHES Torygraph (20 vi)

In a surprise development, Lisbet Rausing (aka Lisbet Koerner, a daughter of Britain's richest man, with a sporting estate near Fort William [called by neighbours `The Pink Palace,' on Loch Ossian] and - after Oxford, Harvard and Cambridge - an academic job at Imperial College, London) explained the three types of Western European which had been identified by her own hero, the nationalistic and nature-loving Linnaeus and validated by the mighty William McDougall (who renamed the groups as Nordic (individualist), Alpinic (authoritarian) and Mediterranean (`amoral familialism', says Rausing). (A fourth group of Europeans, the Russians, proved readily taken in by humanitarian, indeed by communist rhetoric; so Europe's main groups spanned the two main dimensions of social attitudes, AUTHORITARIAN vs HUMANITARIAN and INDIVIDUALIST vs RELIGIONIST.)

AFFIRMATIVE ACTION CRASHES

The Home Office was reprimanded by the National Audit Office for failing to solve the problem of enormous backlogs of cases at its Immigration Office. The reason? In 2001, entry standards, formerly 2 A Levels, were relaxed so as to recruit more Blacks and Pakistanis. The result? So many (successful) appeals against poor decisions that the system remained as jammed as before (Daily Telegraph, 23 vi). {Notwithstanding, the British Medical Association - having already turned General Practice into a 60% female business -- declared its intent to recruit more Blacks and Pakistanis as medical students.}

MURDEROUS MUSLIMS

An international police conference at The Hague was told that, worldwide, there were some 5,000 `honour killings' annually of Muslim girls - and in addition that Muslim girls were four times as likely as others to commit suicide (Daily Telegraph, 23 vi).

UKIP LEADERS STAY IN NEWS

Robert Kilroy-Silk et al. achieved good coverage from the BBC, the Guardian, Reuters, the Times [with a big picture] and the Scotsman as they arrived at the ghastly E.U. `Parliament' building in Brussels. {Funny, it's the right-of-centre newspapers which are embarrassed by UKIP.} Full (if hostile) coverage was also provided by World Socialist (23 vi) - accusing various UKIP members of capitalism, pro-American imperialism, Thatcherism, xenophobia, Holocaust denial etc. More efforts to link UKIP to racism revealed that the brave Viscount Massereene and Ferrard (d. 1996), the president of the disbanded Conservative Monday Club -- the smash of which led to UKIP -- had once been quoted as saying, "If you say I am a racist, yes I certainly am, and proud of it". Via its links to Derek Turner's Right Now magazine, UKIP could be associated with eugenicism, Hans Eysenck and yours truly. Bingo! The only hope for the left was to deny the rise in Britain of Pim Fortuyn-type national liberalism and insist that anything to the right of them was `racist.'

{In 2001, The United Kingdom Independence Party said that it could be targeted by new rules outlawing racism and xenophobia, noting that the Oxford English Dictionary definition of xenophobia is "a morbid fear of foreigners or foreign countries." Nigel Farage MEP, the party's chairman, said: "I'm morbidly xenophobic about this new country called the European Union, so if that is covered by this law then I'm most certainly xenophobic and I could be extradited anywhere. So I'm going to make sure my overnight bag is packed and ready."}

THE g FACTOR CELEBRATED

A healthy summary of TgF by economist Ed Miller was discovered at the site of the `far right' but in fact eminently reasonable American race realist and martyred politician David Duke.

BLACK HATE SPEECH ANNOYS YAGS

A Black `reggae' music artiste was reported to the police and subsequently reprimanded for his lines "I'm dreaming of a new Jamaica /Come to execute all gays."

ANTI-PAEDOHYSTERICAL TOP COP DEFENDED

Humberside's chief of police bravely refused to resign when accused of not doing his bit to organize the British police state demanded by blind Home Secretary David Blunkett. Chief Constable David Westwood had been expected by the ludicrous and incompetent windbag Blunkett to collect and retain all allegations and accusations of underage sex, paedophilia, child abuse etc. even when cops knew they and the Director of Public Prosecutions could never make charges stand up in court. Bravely, backed by the Humberside police authority, Westwood put up two fingers to Britain's paedohysterical tabloid press and the laughable Home Secretary who has allowed Britain to be inundated with asylum seekers and Pakistani `husbands' forced on Muslim girls living in fear of their lives. In the Times, columnist Ross Clarke pointed out that the ancient British principle that a man was `innocent till proven guilty' had been replaced with the sorry idea that he was `innocent until someone turned up bearing a grudge and making feminastie accusations of paedofumbling or vaguely remembered child abuse.'

BRITAIN'S MISEDUCATION SYSTEM SLAMMED BY PRINCE

Before a conference of top educators and historians, Prince Charles blasted the a-historical curriculum of Britain's schools, the crazy egalitarian objective of `educating' 50% of Britain's increasingly agrammatical and obese kids in `universities' by 2010, and the ceaseless and bureaucracy-generating government `initiatives' intended to disguise the process of dumbing down (Guardian, 26 vi). {The only major matter the Prince failed to criticize was the domination of state education by the left - with 95% of dons being of liberal-left persuasions following a generation of biassed recruiting (McDougall NewsLetters, passim; Diary, April; Times, 12 iv, `Angry Right is aiming to teach a lesson to liberal professors').}

HATE-FILLED MINORITIES

A reminder of the intrinsic hopelessness of venerating minorities was provided in London by a Black reggae musician who had taken to singing to adoring fans, "I'm dreaming of a new Jamaica / Come to execute all the gays" - he was promptly visited by the Metropolitan Police and taken off air by the BBC.

THREE TYPES OF (WESTERN) EUROPEAN IDENTIFIED IN Sunday Telegraph

Following an article by multi-millionaire historian of science (and substantial landowner in Scotland), Lisbet Rausing, I replied, was favoured with acceptance by the Sunday Telegraph and appeared in print as follows (27 vi, p. 22).

---------------------------------

There are three species of European

Dear Sir,

Your columnist Lisbet Rausing should be congratulated for distinguishing the three main cultural groupings of Western Europe -- the individualistic north-west, the authoritarian centre and the family-centred south (20th June, 'A modest proposal for Europe'). Such realism about human differences is unusual today but can find authority in the work of Britain's famous scholar William McDougall (1870-1938) who held the Chair of Psychology for six years at Harvard University. McDougall distinguished by 1920* the 'Nordic', 'Alpinic' and 'Mediterranean' peoples of the West and especially remarked how these three peoples continued their own traditions after emigration to the USA -- with the Nordics venturing westwards, the French and Germans congregating in cities, and the Italians continuing with their famous 'families.' It would be interesting to know how Lisbet Rausing came by her own proposal for grouping Western people in a sensible way. And of course it is a pity that similar realism has not been applied to acknowledge the three very different peoples of Iraq (Kurd, Sunni, Shi-ite).

Christopher Brand, Edinburgh

---------------------------------

I also emailed as follows, appending my Torygraph letter, to Lisbet Rausing herself (aka Lisbet Koerner), newly arrived in Imperial College London from years spent in the universities of Harvard and Cambridge.

---------------------------------

Dear Lisbet Rausing: Congratulations on your Sunday Telegraph column! -- A bit of race realism at last. Perhaps times are beginning to change what with Kilroy-Silk and so on. I thought you would like to know I have emailed the ST as follows so you can reply with more Linnaeus (my own first hero in biology, for Darwin took so long over everything). Keep Up The Good Work, as Maggie used to say. I am yours sincerely, -- Chris Brand.

* For your reference, if desired, from W. McDougall, 1920, 'The Group Mind', Cambridge University Press:

"....we can distinguish a race of northerly distribution and origin, characterised physically by fair colour of hair and skin and eyes, by tall stature and dolichocephaly (i.e. long shape of head) and mentally by great independence of character, individual initiative, and tenacity of will. ....recently the term Homo Europaeus, first applied by Linnaeus to this type, has come into favour; and perhaps it is the best term to use, since this type seems to be exclusively European. It is also called the Nordic type. The rest of the population of Europe, with the exception of some peoples in the extreme north and east of partly mongoloid or yellow racial origin, seems to be chiefly derived from two stocks. Of these, the one type, which occupies chiefly the central regions, is most commonly denoted by the name Homo Alpinus; the other, chiefly in the south, by the name Homo Mediterraneus. Both are of dark or brunette complexion and the principal physical difference between them is that the former, H.Alpinus, has a short, broad head (i.e. in brachycephalic) and also is of short stature; while the latter, H.Mediterraneus, is long-headed like the northern type and is perhaps taller than H.Alpinus. Mentally, both these differ from the northern or European type in having less independence and initiative, a greater tendency to rely upon and seek guidance from authority (cf. Ripley's 'Races of Europe' and Prof. H.J.Fleure's 'Geography in Western Europe', London, 1919)."

GENETIC FACTORS CONFIRMED

Cognitive and affective differences emerged as strongly heritable in new research from King's College London on an impressive 1,116 pairs of twins. When Julia Kim-Cohen and co-workers asked how well children were doing relative to their degree of environmental deprivation, IQ differences were 45% genetic and differences in anti-social behaviour were 70% genetic (Times, 14 v; Child Development, 2004)).

PAEDOHYSTERIA PARADISE

The full resources of Britain's criminal `justice' system were used over two years to persecute, convict and jail for a further two years a senior schoolmaster, 48, on whom a 14-year-old female religious studies pupil had developed a crush (Daily Telegraph, 14 v). The pair went everywhere together, being thought of as uncle and niece, and had sex over six months; and the girl - by this time 16 -- was in tears as Doncaster Crown Court delivered its savage verdict. The teacher had 23 years teaching experience without a spot on his character.

{By contrast, a Black Malawian asylum swindler, Feston Konzani, 28, was given only a 10-year stretch after he had ruined and shortened the lives of three British females (one only 15) by infecting them with HIV/AIDS during unprotected sex.}

`PATRIOTS vs PEECEE' BANDWAGON ROLLS

A critical Sunday Herald warned that, with Robert Kilroy-Silk's determination answering general public cynicism about other parties, there could a political landslide in Britain in June (16 v). Likewise the centre-left Independent noted that UKIP had a £2m warchest, star backing from explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes, astronomer Sir Patrick Moore and former racing driver Sir Stirling Moss, and 12% support in the polls (compared to 7% in 2003) (15 v). Kilroy-Silk also got mentioned in the Scotsman and Guardian of 15 v.

THE SCIENTIFIC STUDY OF GENERAL INTELLIGENCE

This 2003 volume (edited by Danish psychologist Helmuth Nyborg), which may prove the last big bang from the London School, was extensively quoted and discussed by ‘neoeugenicist’ Matt Nuenke.

Perhaps the most incisive sentence in the book, a second Festschrift for Emeritus Professor Arthur Jensen, was "Critics of biological determinism are like members of a fire brigade, constantly being called out in the middle of the night to put out the latest conflagration, always responding to immediate emergencies, but never with the leisure to draw up plans for a truly fireproof building” – actually a quote from g-basher Stephen Jay Gould which ironically but pithily sums up the left’s failure over the years to build its own convincing account of general intelligence.

It recalled Earl Hunt's remark of c. 1999 that, in nature/nurture debates, nature theorists were the stompers and nurture theorists the stompees.)

Reviews were also provided in Occidental Quarterly (a fine summary of the book’s central if familiar thrust by editor Kevin Lamb) and to the publisher Elsevier by twin study expert Tom Bouchard and Cambridge learning theorist Nicholas Mackintosh – the latter doubting that g’s central causal role in its data nexus was finally established but properly deploring his cognitive/experimental colleagues’ lack of respect for Arthur Jensen. (The two Elsevier reviews were eventually published in the subscription-only journal Intelligence, March-April 2004.)

Evidently, the new volume* does a fine job of exposing ‘the collective fraud’ (Nyborg, Linda Gottfredson [URLs for her publications]) of g’s opponents; acutely, Nyborg observes that Gould et al. used to criticize sociobiology for Just So stories, but today, faced with the massive edifice of the London School’s century-long work on the g factor (first observed by Charles Spearman in 1904), Gould et al. themselves can only resort to telling Just So stories themselves (most commonly about hypothetical genetic-environmental interaction effects occasionally observed under extreme experimental manipulations in plants). Nuenke’s substantial effort will help enlighten those who have not wanted to fork out the 70 pounds demanded for the volume by Elsevier and help make up for the failure of the world’s cowardly scientific press to produce a single review in the nine months following publication.}

*The book includes a chapter by C.R. Brand, D. Constales and H. Kane.

NOT DEAD YET

It was nice to see I was still getting taught at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh - at least in 2003, by Lindsay Oliver, Lecturer in Cognitive Science. {Watch out, Lindsay, they'll be coming for you soon!}

SEX DIFFERENCES DRAMATIZED

A survey of 14,000 Tesco customers as to their favourite films showed that the top twenty films chosen by men (1. Star Wars 2. The Great Escape 3. The Godfather) had simply zero overlap with the top twenty chosen by women (1. Dirty Dancing 2. Bridget Jones's Diary 3. Thelma and Louise). Said Times film critic Dave Calhoun (12 iv): "Men violently peacock around other men in `The Godfather', `Scarface' and `Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' - all films that lend men easy celluloid heroes. While in `Titanic', `Ghost' and `Truly, Madly, Deeply', female characters painfully struggle to find true love - cue tears, empathy and a much repeated plotline."

LUNIVERSITY LEFT-WING BIAS REPORTED AT LAST

Long after the overwhelming Democratic bias of U.S. academics became widely known - some 90% of staff being liberal-left (McDougall Newsletters, passim), the Times of London deigned to report the phenomenon (12 iv, `Angry Right is aiming to teach a lesson to liberal professors'). The comparable phenomenon of liberal-left bias in British luniversities had been reported to the highest levels of the Conservative Party without the slightest action being taken.

WALLS CATCHING ON

Amidst protests from Amnesty International (which never lifted a finger against peecee censorship of The g Factor), officials in Rio de Janeiro planned to put walls around two of the city's slums to restrict otherwise infectious violence, thieving and drug pushing from reaching the city's richest areas and fashionable beaches. {Five years ago, Slovakian authorities walled in gypsies; and the past year saw the near-completion of the Israeli wall to segregate Palestinians. That walls provide one of the few practical answers to multiculti-crazy politicians was long ago proved in Northern Ireland.}

`MUSLIMS A BUSTED FLUSH' - TOP DOC

The doctor who secretly reports - as `Doctor Theodor Dalrymple' - for the Times and the Spectator explained to his readers that there was no need to fear much Muslim terror from the youngsters of Muslim families in East London (Times, 15 iv). Apparently Muslim prisoners (whose numbers were approaching those of Blacks) show not the slightest interest in Islam except for its tolerance of polygamy and the oppression of women. Halal meat, reading the Koran, praying to Mecca? Forget it! Muslim young men just wanted their heroin and the opportunity to offer marriage ad lib to feckless White girls; and Muslim girls were wearing their veils only to oblige parents, spending their time otherwise smoking and reading the sexual advices in girls' magazines.

FEMILOONS WARNED

Man-aping feminasties were given a salutary shock as top Scottish female weightlifter, Ms Nuttall-Halliwell, 38, died from her exertions (Scotsman 16 iv). Additionally the obscenely proportioned Ms Nutty-Ballyunwell had been injecting herself with insulin so as to cheat inspectors of body-building freaks.

EDUCALUNACY CARTOON CORNER

British teachers gave everyone a hoot when, at their annual conference (BBC, 16 iv), they roundly denounced the policies of sending `learning disabled' (i.e. low-IQ) children to normal schools - policies which most of the loony `teachers' had accepted without a whimper for the previous generation in which `Tories' had followed Labourites in pretending that all children could be educated in the same way (except for their own wee darlings who invariably needed private education or a grammar school place achieved by purchasing housing in one of Britain's few unreconstructed areas).

RACE REALISM VINDICATED

1. Philippe Rushton's 20-year-long stress on the uncontrolled sexuality of Black people received fresh confirmation as the US Army reported that its Black women had rates of AIDS no less than 23 times higher than the rate for White servicewomen (Guardian, 6 iv). Experts declined to comment on the possibility that Black women - normally deprived of sex because Black men prefer White women or drugs or just shooting each other - go rather wild when finding themselves in a situation where there are 20 males competing for every female.

2. New research from the eminent Clemson University, South Carolina, reported that the racial diversity of an area was linked to higher crime - and even more so when the area was racially segregated (perhaps because of extreme crime problems). (The linkage of countries' ethnic diversity to prisonization was noted in McDougall NewsLetters, 1999, using figures supplied by the Council of Europe.)

3. Ordinary people in Britain had become fed up with unrestricted immigration (Times, 6 iv). According to a Populus poll, 73% wanted immigration only if accompanied by self-sufficiency and/or skills; and a further 18% wanted immigration closed down altogether. The poll recorded the Conservatives as having caught up with Labour for the first time since the 2001 general election - both parties having the support of 34% of the electorate. Top tabloid columnist for the usually Labour-ite Daily Mirror, Tony Parsons, asked of immigrants "Why the hell do they have to live here?" For the Times (6 iv), columnist Michael Gove proposed simply charging immigrants a flat œ10,000 for the right to British residence - thereby democratizing the current arrangements under which anyone can win residence by bringing in œ1 million of investment.

BLAIR CLIMB-DOWN ON IMMIGRATION

After a blistering week of tabloid allegations over one-legged `roof tilers' and `electricians' with fingers missing being allowed to breeze into Britain, P.M. Tony Blair announced -- after a one-hour Downing Street ministerial `summit' for tea and Tunnocks' caramel biscuits -- that he would be taking over control of immigration policy from blind Home Secretary Jo Blunkett, stopping sham marriages, busting universities which take on bogus students, having the Audit Office investigate Britain's asylum statistics to see if their accuracy could be ascertained or improved, reinstating the Civil Service whistleblowers who had exposed the Blunkett/Hughes malpractices and introducing identity cards as soon as possible (perhaps by 2006). But the Opposition called the climb-down a gimmick and said Blair had `more summits than the Himalayas'. And from Cambridge University economics professor, Robert Rowthorn, fellow of prestigious and normally left-ish King's College, writing for the think-tank Civitas, claimed that dullard immigration did not boost the British economy as the Government liked to claim but rather may be costing it œ400 million annually - apparently Government figures standardly neglect the cost of running the immigration service (Sun, 7 iv; Scotsman 7 iv); Professor Rowthorn especially reckoned that unskilled immigration was a net loser for Britain. {It was equally likely that the Government's talking up of immigration failed to include the costs of the provision of social housing, immigrant criminality and the provision of education andhealthcare. A request to the Home Office (by Robert Henderson, followed by chase-up) to supply such information drew a blank non-reply in 2002. Such information needs to be supplied for second-generation non-White immigrant families (especially in the case of Blacks whose low-IQ and hyperactive children are a constant drain on the educational system).}

"SEISMIC SHIFT" AS BLAIR DUMPS MULTICULTURALISM

Although British politicians had treated the British people with contempt for a decade by shamelessly continuing with mass dullard immigration despite London schools, doctors' surgeries and hospital clinics (not to mention the immigration `service') being plainly swamped hy people who speak little English and have many difficult ailments and even more children, the revenge of the Marxists for their losing the Cold War was thought to be coming to the end of its useful life. In the Daily Telegraph (7 iv), whistleblowing civil servant Steve Moxon (who exposed the Hughes/Blunkett scams) read the new linguistic dance of Blair buddy Trevor Phillips (above) as frankly indicating a "seismic shift" in discourse if not reality. Backing up this analysis came top leftish (and feminastie) Grauniad columnist Polly Toynbee (7 iv, `Why Trevor is right') saying British people did indeed have "not unreasonable fears" about immigration; congratulating Phillips on breaking with "the unctuous, unthinking platitudes about the richness of all diversity, as if difference were a self-evident asset"; saying that British history should be taught (and "not just the lessons to be learned from Hitler"); insisting that "Muslim teaching on women staying one step behind will not do"; and referring to the "rogue crazed creed" and the "insane and unassuageable cult" of the one Muslim in 8 who supports Al Qaeda and saying "no kind of multiculturalism `understands' this." {The last remark admittedly suggested a continuing residual affection for multiculturalism, but Polly had at least been making a reasonable effort to re-arrange her armchairs till she got carried away by the old tunes. Likewise, `Asians in Media' (8 iv) professed the hope that the BBC would "continue its commitment to Asian programming (whatever Mr Trevor Phillips says about ditching multiculturalism)."} Home Secretary Blunkett said he agreed with Phillips that the term `multiculturalism' was no longer useful and should be replaced by `diversity with integration' (BBC 7 iv). Church authorities also tentatively welcomed Phillips' apparent change of tack, talking of `the tide changing in Britain's debate on culture' (Church Times, 8 iv) - and of course insisting that the church was at the heart of British culture. Intellectuals David Goodhart and Roger Scruton also welcomed Phillips' change of heart and/or discourse - Goodhart was singularly generous in this since he had been condemned as a xenophobe for articulating similar views in March; and Times correspondents were generally pro the new Phillips. But top Scotsman lady columnist Joyce Macmillan was shocked (10 iv) and said abandoning multiculturalism was "both bizarre and deeply dangerous" since (a) it had never been tried outside London and (b) no-one knew what Britishness was anyhow. The `seismic' and plainly unexpected nature of the Phillips Declaration was further indicated by wailing and lamentation from (Times, 10 iv):

GOVT. MINISTER RESIGNS AS UNQUALIFIED MIGRANTS STREAM INTO U.K.

After ten days of argument in Parliament (see March, above), the Home Office Minister responsible for Immigration, Beverly Hughes, resigned. She admitted she had, albeit "unwittingly", apparently due to a memory lapse or three, misled Parliament and the public about the H.O.'s catastrophic peecee policies that effectively allowed just about anyone to enter Britain as and when backlogs of applicants mounted. In the Guardian (1 iv), Conservative M.P. David Cameron wrote that Britain's blind Home Secretary David Blunkett was "either a fool or a fake" to have defended Hughes vigorously against civil service whistleblowers - and he claimed that, with asylum swindling doubled since Labour took office, and with civil servants seeing that H.O. policy is to put the blame on them, plenty more whistleblowers were queuing up. Prime Minister Tony Blair said he would be taking "a close interest" in immigration lest it became "a source of tension and misunderstanding."

The Guardian's political editor, Michael White, wrote (2 iv) : "There was no disguising how serious a blow the affair is to Labour's credibility and its battle to restore public trust." The Spectator noted that Conservative leader Michael Howard had scented blood and switched the topic of a big speech from `the National Health Service - how we will match Labour spending' to the topic of immigration (abandoned three years ago by the `Tories' as `racist'). The Sunday Telegraph (4 iv) claimed Mr Blair himself had authorized the granting of mass visas to unqualified Romanians so long as they obliged him by switching from asylum seeking - which he had promised the British public he would cut. To the Observer (4 iv), a friend of David Blunkett's described the revelations of Government forgetfulness and fiddling as "catastrophic."

`WE MUST SCRAP MULTICULTURALISM' - Race Relations Supremo

Still reeling from 10, Downing Street's support for multicultural revisionists David Goodhart and Roger Putnam (see March), Britain's half-Black boss of its `Campaign for Racial Equality' decided to pretend to follow suit by telling the Times (3 iv, p. 1) that multiculturalism was "out of date" and what was needed was monoculturalism with lots of rights for valued minorities. As Muslim young men burned the Union Jack in London Regent's Park, Trevor Phillips, the best connected man in London (he chooses staff for Prince Charles), announced a two-part deal which he said should be brokered.

1: "Even if we disagree with their views on the Middle East, religion or anything else, they are still all one of us," he ludicrously announced. "The first thing we must do is call them British again and again and again, tell them all they are British muslims and we accept them."

2: It must be pointed out that they, for their part, must "work by the rules of British people - and that excludes terrorism."

Yes, he agreed, we must "kill off multiculturalism - it means the wrong things, like separateness." Instead, Britain should adopt Multiculturalism Mark II - venerating Shakespeare, eccentricity, tolerance and diversity, and smiling genially on the jumbo-salaried Phillips supporting the Guyana cricket team. But Phillips deplored Britain's one clear gain from years of multicultural piety, saying he did not approve of Black youf thinking they can smoke marijuana just because it had been reclassified by Labour as only a Grade C drug - "That is nonsense. It is against the law."

Leading Thatcherite Lord Norman Tebbitt, who had once outraged the likes of Phillips by saying immigrants should normally support the English cricket team, gave a qualified welcome to Phillips' charade, saying he was glad his long-held views were perhaps coming within reach of popularity. The liberal-left Observer (4 iv) was more reserved, applauding the "multiracial, multicultural society" as "a good one" and saying any further `integration' would require Whites to embrace diversity and "respect the rights of others whose beliefs are different from our own."

The Muslim Council of Britain tried to conceal its anger, with general secretary Iqbal Sacranie saying "Multiculturalism is something to cherish and be proud of" and that Phillips' comments had been "too Muslim-specific" (Sunday Herald [Scotland], 4 iv, p. 1); and the Black peer and former Tory candidate, Lord Taylor of Warwick, branded Phillips "too right-wing for me."

State-funded Muslim `anti-racist' campaigners rejected what they took to be Phillips' abandonment of multiculturalism as "disgusting"; but a Times leader (3 iv), while urging "the majority" to demonstrate "tolerance of diversity," noted that "vast sums have been spent supporting ethnic uniqueness at the expense of our common heritage" and that it could well be time for a change.

{Meanwhile, as a practical class unremarked by U.K. newspapers, the Arabs of the Sudan, Africa's largest country, demonstrated their own lack of faith in multiculturalism by ethnically cleansing 800,000 Black Africans from their homes in the Darfur area of south-west Sudan (whence 100,000 victims fled into Chad while others remained inspecting what remained of their burnt-out villages) (Globe & Mail [Canada], 2 iv; BBC, 3 iv; Deepika [India] 4 iv); China Daily, 4 iv; Taipei Times, 4 iv; ABC Online [Australia], 4 iv).}

MULTICULTURALISM HAS PEAKED - Spectator

Noting that in David Blunkett's new ceremony for granting UK nationality, U.K. immigrants must swear allegiance to the Queen, British law and democracy, the illustrious centre-right columnist and author, Ferdinand Mount, suggested that multiculturalism had probably come to the end of its natural life - brought to an end by a Labour Home Secretary (6 iii).

(At the same time, it was announced that the Home Office was not interested in a `Slavery Memorial Day' and had told Blacks it was time for them to forget about slavery and move on.)

GOOD NEWS - BAD NEWS FOR AMERICA

In 1992, presidential hopeful Senator John Kerry criticized affirmative racism, saying "The truth is that affirmative action has kept America thinking in racial terms." Alas, in 2004 he changed his mind: "I haave consistently opposed efforts in the Senate to undermine or eliminate affirmative action."

TRACKING AT LAST

H.M. Government announced it had built up a database of 20,000 of the country's brightest children with an eye to giving them special help aiming towards early university entrance. Apparently schools nominate (at a cost of œ15) their favourite 11-16-year-olds who are then required "to pass one of a range of tests to demonstrate their ability" (Sunday Telegraph, 7 iii). All rather mysterious - but hopefully infuriating liberal-lefties everywhere. {A re-introduction of streaming was first advocated in Britain in February, 1996, by prime-ministerial hopeful Tony Blair and by myself, in The g Factor (Wiley DePublisher).}

{In the Sunday Times (7ii) top broadcaster and columnist John Humphrys predicted that both of the U.K.'s main political parties would soon be backing `customer choice' in health and education - as long urged in McDougall NewsLetters.}

GOVERNMENT FIDDLE OF IMMIGRATION FIGURES EXPOSED

A brave civil servant, Steve Moxon, working in the Immigration Service, went to the Sunday Times to show the paper how a stream of immigrants was being admitted largely unscrutinized into Britain - so there would not be so many after the magic date of May 1st when millions of new European Union citizens became eligible to visit Britain and seek work (7 vii, pp. 1 [`Lid blown on migrant cover-up'], 14-15; Scotland on Sunday, 7 iii). Civil servants were expressly told not to discuss or reveal the new policy so as not to excite Britain's tabloid newspapers. A female government minister admitted that thousands of applicants had been let in without scrutiny but said that civil servants had thought up the deceptive wheeze for themselves and she had not been told.

NATIONALIST BOOST

The cause of nationalism appeared to be rejuvenated in Austria's southern Carinthia province where Jorg Haider's `far-right' Freedom Party picked up 42% of votes in the presidential election compared to only 38% for the social democrats (BBC, 8 iii). Apparently Haider had stressed his support for tax cuts and quite a few Conservatives had switched to vote for him. His most recent outrage had been to visit Baghdad and support Madman Insane.

{Greece also moved to the right in elections which easily ended the ten-year rule of socialist George Papandreou. And in New Zealand the National Party had moved ahead of Labour in the polls, promising to end affirmative preferences to Maoris (Economist, 26 ii).}

POPULAR EUGENICS

A new book on eugenics amounted to nothing more than the standard propaganda of the modern left that eugenics = racism = euthanasia = Holocaust. But it did admit how popular eugenics was in the 1930's - not least with Scottish-American steel boss, billionaire and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie (a fact virtually never mentioned about him in biographies of the great man whose first big charitable act was the provision of a library in Dumfermline, where he had been born in 1835).

{Today, a bust of the great eugenicist -- whose generosity of 1904 made possible the eugenic research laboratories at Cold Spring Harbour in Long Island, New York-graces the stairway of Edinburgh Central Library. Perhaps it will one day meet the same fate at the hands of `anti-racists' as happened to the bust of lunchtime "rapist" Arthur Koestler at the hands of LUniversity of Edinburgh feminists in 1998 (see McDougall Newsletters, October et seq.)

FOOTBALLERS SLAM FEMINISTS

In the battle in Spain of accused Leicester City soccer player `rapists' against Black female `victims', the footballers went one up as a photo came to light of just how enthusiastic the Black girls (possibly hookers) had been for sex on the night that 3+ players ended up in a hotel bedroom with the girlies (Sun, 9 iii). Next (Sun, 10 iii) it turned out that all the three Black `victims' (of scratches, a broken bracelet and perhaps one rape) were all well known as prostitutes in Germany - one had run a brothel in Amsterdam, bringing in and exploiting young girls from her home country of Malawi. {Presumably the girls had enticed the footballers into thinking they were offering the normal free `roasting' that soccer heroes expect, and then outraged the lads by demanding money.}

MARRIAGE IS HERITABLE

Marriage and Personality: A Genetic Analysis, BY Wendy Johnson, Matt McGue, Robert F. Krueger, and Thomas J. Bouchard Jr. (University of Minnesota, Twin Cities), Journal of Personality and Social Psychology 86, 2, 285-294.

SUMMARY: There is substantial evidence that married people fare better than their unmarried peers on many life outcome variables. The authors asked whether self-selection might partially explain these benefits through genetic influences on personality contributing to propensity to marry. Using a population-based sample of 4,225 women and 2,869 men that included 2,527 complete twin pairs, the authors investigated the phenotypic associations between personality and propensity to marry, the heritability of propensity to marry, and the extent of genetic influence on the link between personality and propensity to marry. The results suggest that propensity to marry is heritable and that the phenotypic link between personality and propensity to marry is genetically influenced.

FEMILUNACY CONTD.

Indicating a good chance of feminism tearing itself apart over Naomi Wolf vs Yale professor Harold Bloom (see earlier here), Anne Summers backed femininnie whingeing about alpha males in the Sydney Morning Herald (1 iii). "If someone as celebrated and brave as Naomi Wolf can be pilloried for seeking justice, what hope do the rest of us have?", Summers moaned. Slate (1 iii) noted an ongoing unsisterly ding-dong between Meghan Rourke (who called Wolf's 'feminist' writing "weak-kneed, more titillating than critical" and said her complaint against Bloom's `encroachment' was "self-promoting" and "truly boneless") and Beverly Mann (who insisted Yale University was "still protecting the guilty"). But Yale Daily News stood by the university's sexual harassment policies (1 iii). Talking about her Day of Encroachment, Wolf told Sarah Baxter (Sunday Times, 29 ii `The gropes of wrath'; The Australian, (3 iii), "I was a very serious student. I take education very seriously. I'm Jewish, I'm the daughter of a professor. We're not animals or slaves to sexual appetites." But Baxter was little impressed and likened Wolf to the ruinous revolutionary Robespierre. In The Australian (3 iii), Elspeth Probyn noted that most commentators had laughed at at Wolf and threw in her two pennorth: "Many years ago, in The Washington Monthly, Stephanie Mencimer described Wolf as "a sillier Sylvia Plath -- self-obsessed and highly overwrought", a "broken-fingernail feminist" who takes her "minor bouts with injustice to epic proportions."

SCHOLAR WARNS OF END OF AMERICA

Harvard professor Samuel P. Huntington - best known as the scholarly scourge of Islamic extremism - warned in a new book that the U.S.A. was being inundated by Mexicans who would transform its culture by 2050. In Who We Are, Huntington wrote: "There is only the American dream created by Anglo-Protestant society. Mexican Americans will share that dream only if they dream in English."

{In the 1980's, Hispanics had appeared to be catching up with Whites in IQ and education; but Mexican immigrants of the past decade appear to have been of markedly lower quality.} {In the Times (1 iii) lively ex-Marxist columnist Mick Hume complained that the British polity was "obsessed with race" and quite unable to have any useful discussions for fear of being called racist.}

`WAR' BEGINS IN U.S.A.

As American Christian fundamentalists blazed away over gay marriage and Mel Gibson's violent film of Christ's pasion was thought likely to stir anti-Semitism, intellectual-homosexual Sunday Times columnist in Washington, Andrew Sullivan, declared "The war is upon us" and would be decided by the November presidential election. {Yet whereas het-up fundamentalists would surely vote Republican (Mr Bush having denounced homosexual marriage), keen anti-Semites would surely vote Democrat in 2004 circumstances; so a clear traditional right vs left fight looked unlikely.}

{So horrified was Sullivan that he rather overlooked such solutions to these ancient problems as having extended neofamilies (which might include some gay members) and inviting the Jewish community to make a clean break with PeeCee and perhaps pay for some of the damage it has caused (see McDougall NewsLetters, passim).

`ANTI-RACISTS' BRANDED

The crazy taxpayer-funded job creation programme for loony immigrants, the `Campaign for Racial Equality', headed by the hysterical Trevor Phillips (see previously), was denounced as "institutionally racist" by Tory Welsh Assemblyman David Davies who especially complained that the CRE never investigated cases of Black-on-Srindopakeshi and Pakistani-on-White racism (Scotsman, 26 ii).

INTEGRATION REALISM

Immigrants to Holland would in future need to fork out œ4,200 to take classes in language and culture; and they would be repeatedly fined every time they failed to pass the government's citizenship exam. The new proposals were to be put before Parliament by Dutch Immigration Minister, Rita Verdonk.

FEMININNY NONSENSE

The ludicrous results of giving girls careers amidst front-line soldiers were exposed when the US Army revealed that no less than 112 accusations of rape and other sexual indiscretions had been lodged with Army authorities during the campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq. According to one hysterical US senator, Susan Collins (Rep., Maine), US servicewomen sometimes had "more to fear from fellow soldiers than from the enemy" (Times, 27 ii).

RACE REALISM ARRIVES IN DOWNING STREET

U.K. Prime Minister Blair's favourite social science guru, Roger Putnam (see previously here), popped in to give of his latest. Said the (normally globalizing) Economist of his work (26 ii): "A large ongoing survey of American communities seems to show, uncomfortably, that levels of trust and co-operation are highest in the most homogenous neighbourhoods. People living in diverse areas, it turns out, are not just more suspicious of people who don't look like them; they are also more suspicious of their own kind. Because of that, they suffer socially, economically and politically. .. Canadian researchers have shown that xenophile nations have seen the smallest increases in welfare spending over the past 30 years. If the pattern holds true, Britain will become less like Scandinavia and more like America, with its racial diversity and frayed social safety net."

LEFT ALIENATION REVEALED

Just how out of touch was the peecee left becoming? A straw in the wind was the condemnation by America's Southern Poverty Law Centre of the otherwise hugely acclaimed film `The Lord of the Rings' - not enough heroines, not enough Blacks and too much patriarchy, apparently. The SPLC preferred 'Matrix' with its mixed-race heroes and White villains. At least in this matter, the left did not have Hollywood's luvvies and wooftahs on its side. In Britain, too, the left began to get risky, with John Upton complaining of Home Secretary David Blunkett's authoritarianism-heading-towards-Nazism (23 ii).

BABE BAGGERS CELEBRATED BY BAFTA-WINNING ACTRESS

In 2003, dramatically risen (via 'Lost in Translation' and ' Girl with a Pearl Earring'), high-maturity, magnetic and dishily-lipped Danish-American starlet Scarlett Johansson, 18, had been heard to remark that men "never really come good until they are in their thirties" (Sunday Telegraph, 22 ii 04). In February 2004, Bafta award-winning Scarlett talked most warmly of the far-older-men with whom she had acted (especially Colin Firth, 43); and the Sun (22 ii) revealed that her own lover was actor Patrick Wilson, 30. Scarlett further admitted that she once "had the hots" for Sean Connery, 70+.

GENETICS = EUGENICS

A new book vilifying eugenics, War Against the Weak: Eugenics and America's Crusade to Create a Master Race, by Edwin Black, was sadly hailed in the Steve Jones-loving Sunday Telegraph by my personal hero Paul Johnson - a devout Catholic as well as right-libertarian writer. Still at least War Against the Weak didn't let modern geneticists off the hook {as they dearly wish and tirelessly try to arrange}: rather, geneticists were shown by Black to have strong descent lines linking them to eugenics and their utopian science had become (writes Johnson) "more powerful than ever, employing more people, attracting more funds, and marked by the same arrogance that distinguished its earlier incarnation . . . . and the absence of a moral philosophy which explores our right or duty to interfere with the natural processes of life."

{Even this welcome recognition is of course unfair to eugenicists like Richard Lynn and myself who base our approach firmly on IQ and its known heritability and social correlates. My own general philosophical position, at least, is that anything which lowers average intelligence in the world is a serious threat to industry, trade, commerce, health, beauty, sporting achievement [except at slow-paced sports like soccer and swimming], peace, freedom, justice and culture. And Richard Lynn has pointed to today's stress on individual rights at the expense of group rights. Hopefully that is a sufficient philosophy for Paul Johnson and Edwin Black!}

{The review came out with two of Fuehrer-loving Leni Riefenstahl's magnificent nude pictures of athletic Aryans - letting readers forget that Riefenstahl also showed interest in and admiration for some other human groups.}

PEECEE CHALLENGED BY P.M.

In Australia, Prime Minister John Howard pointed to an excess of political correctness in state schools as the main reason why 32% of children were being kept away from them by parents (Christian Science Monitor, 24 ii). Howard - who was backed by several of his ministers - was the first Western leader to identify PeeCee publicly as a real problem.

FRENCH INTELLECTUALS MEET THEIR MATCH

After a collective whine for more moolah, Parisian intellos -- including postmodern deconstructibabbler Jacques Derrida -- were reproved by a government minister, Patrick Devedjian, who told them "Chez nous, the intellos have a habit of signing petitions while in the USA they win Nobel Prizes."

PAEDOHYSTERIA SLATED

In an amusing article in the Spectator (21 ii), Rod Liddle conjectured that the wave of obesity among children was chiefly due to lack of exercise - resulting chiefly from parental paedohysteria and schoolteachers being reluctant to take gym lessons and supervise children in the showers.

ANXIETIES ABOUT `WRETCHED OF THE EARTH' IMMIGRATION VOICED - SHOCKING THE LEFT

Talk of the need to restrict/control/manage immigration increased, with intellectuals such as Blairite Prospect magazine editor David Goodhart(full reprint in Guardian 24 ii, which admitted "a bitter debate among progressive thinkers") and the `Conservative' leader Michael Howard surfacing with pale imitations of what White Londoners had been saying for years - though Howard felt obliged simultaneously to denounce the British National Party as "a bunch of thugs" (in fact the BNP's Cambridge-educated leader's only conviction had been for speech crime under Britain's infamously oppressive Race Relations Act).

The new trend drew down the wrath of the Campaign for Racial Equality's Black boss, Trevor Phillips, who wailed in the Guardian (16 ii):"..the liberal Powellites are gaining support in high places. The new ideas are inspired by the work of the American sociologist Robert Putnam, a Downing Street favourite. Putnam purports to show that dynamic, diverse communities are more fragmented than stable, monoethnic ones." Labour MP Keith Vaz (formerly Minister for Europe) recorded his own wish to keep Britain's doors open to all and sundry (Independent, 22 ii); and one A. Sivanandan, `Director of the Institute of Race Relations' complained about Goodhart in an article published by the Guardian (26
ii
).

For his pains, editor Goodhart was hauled on to BBC Radio 4's flagship `Today' programme to confront an Indian member of the House of Lords who, like Phillips, objected to `genteel racism' - though the diplomatic Indian settled for saying merely that solidarity was not incompatible with mass immigration since people liked nothing better than welcoming diverse immigrants and seeing them become welfare-dependent. The Independent (22 ii) said Cabinet nerves were "on edge" over immigration as the left began to argue about Goodhart; and the Guardian (18 ii) promisingly indicated that its correspondents were divided roughly 2-1 against Goodhart. Meantime the Sun (24 ii), the Daily Mail (25 ii), the Daily Express (25 ii) and the Daily Telegraph (24 ii) continued to confront feeble government changes in immigration policy which it said would do next to nothing to prevent a wave of gypsy immigration from Eastern Europe in May.

{The strange thing about immigration junkies is that they never identify any countries to which Brits can flee and find a refuge from socialism in free and sensible education for children, health care provided by English speakers, and non-bankrupting provision for old age. Equally, a strange thing about anti-immigration writers is their failure to realize that no amount of tinkering - withdrawing some or even all welfare benefits - is likely to stop people from all round the world heading for the one really nice and successful country having a boomtown economy. As top Times columnist Simon Jenkins pointed out (25 ii), the insistence of successive governments on paying for 40% of Britain's brightest and best to study postmodernism and learn PeeCee at universities means the country is sorely short of plumbers, roofers and electricians so naturally sucks in labour. - Jenkins only needed to add the other reversible horror story: the refusal of Britain's feminists to breed which could be rectified by providing crˆches in schools and universities and cancelling university fees for pregnant girls and mothers.}

{David Goodhart received support from centrist top broadcaster and columnist John Humphrys (Sunday Times, 22 ii). Humphrys said it must be possible to favour immigration restrictions without being accused of `racism' and concluded "If that makes me guilty in Phillips' phrase of "genteel racism" - so be it." Goodhart's article contained many interesting empirical nuggets, e.g. that US states that are more racially diverse spend less on welfare, and that, because immigrants themselves age, Britain would need 60million immigrants to maintain the age structure of the population over the next half-century. Goodhart also urged a `two tier' welfare system - allowing immigrants to opt out of high taxation and welfare provision and have a less committing second-class citizenship [as suggested in TgF NewsLetters and McDougall NewsLetters (e.g. 28 iv 1998)] or even just obliging them to do without the vote and expensive welfare services.

In the Spectator (28 ii), Goodhart was backed by political editor Peter Oborne who pointed out that immigration was making Brits pay for the African AIDS crisis while benefiting chiefly the rich and big employers wanting cheap labour. Immigrants would be acceptable so long as they had clear duties as well as `rights', said practical Anatole Kaletsky in the Times: "Britain needs neither more border guards nor more handwringing about the "progressive dilemma". What it needs is better community policing, tougher law enforcement, more rigorous education, and identity cards to combat welfare fraud. If he wants to win support for the welfare state, as well as for open borders, Mr Blair should spend less time listening to Labour intellectuals and the tabloid press and more to Mr Blunkett."

A move away from globalization towards nationalism was suggested to be well underway by top Canadian intellectual John Ralston Saul writing in Harper's magazine (March,popularizing an article published in Financial Review) - pointing to countries like Malaysia and Brazil having recommenced government regulation of the economy and to the USA's near-single-handed nationalism in how it handled 9/11. It certainly seemed likely that without distinct nations and national arrangements, globalization would logically proceed to global monopoly - as had already near-happened with Microsoft.}

{As to the relevance of criminal convictions to suitability as an MP, the Labour Party in East Reading made clear it saw no connection when it deselected its apparently unduly Blairite sitting MP (who had favoured the Iraq war) and replaced her as their candidate for the next General Election with a homosexual man who had two convictions for gross indecency.}

{British developments were summarized in the left-wing Mother Jones magazine which noted that nationalists in Scotland did not agree with London's anxieties (27 ii) - they wanted more Eastern European immigration, perhaps preferring that to the arrival of Blacks, Pakistanis or English from London?! The top Arab newspaper Aljazeerah also cautioned against Britain's "anti-immigration hysteria" and the role of David Goodhart in fuelling it (21 ii).}

TOP PROF. ACCUSED OF `SEXUAL HARASSMENT' BY TOP FEMILOON

Yale University's top scholar and the world's greatest Shakespeare expert, Harold Bloom, in his seventies, was accused in New York magazine (23 ii) of putting his hand on the inside thigh of best-selling and best-looking feminastie authoress Naomi Wolf when the busty (C-cup) telegenic girlie had him as her unofficial weekly tutor twenty years previously. Apparently the thickset ooops Falstaffian professor, then 53 and a referee for Naomi's Rhodes Scholarship application, had stayed behind after a candlelit supper party at the (Naomi admits) "sick with excitement" Naomi's home to read her poetry and had drunk most of a bottle of sack ooops amontillado sherry which he had brought with him. But as Naomi went to hand over the poetry, Bloom's hand had another idea. After Bloom "encroached on" her, Naomi supposedly vomited after which Bloom corked his bottle and left with it, throwing in that Wolf was a "deeply troubled girl." In a move that might finally split femininnies from the rest of the liberal-left -- and surely from Blacks - Wolf, 42, said she was telling her tale because she had heard many subsequent allegations against the mighty and charming professor who some say could fankly have any undergraduette he wanted and name his favoured position.

Yale University told Wolf it would not pursue her complaint since it had a statute of limitations requiring whiners to come forward within two years of the events that allegedly discombobulated them. Tough lesbo-feminist Camille Paglia, 56, and also once Bloom's student, declared: "It really smacks of the Salem witch hunts and all the accompanying hysteria. Naomi Wolf, for her entire life, has been batting her eyes and bobbing her boobs and made a profession of courting male attention by flirting and offering her sexual allure. At the beginning of the 90's, people said, `Oh, Naomi Wolf, this great thinker!' But what she's managed to do in 10 years is marginalize herself as a chronicler of teenage angst. She doesn't want to leave that magic island when she was the ripening teenager. How many books, how many articles, Naomi, are you going to impose on us so we have to be dragged back to your teenage heartbreak years? This is regressive. It's childish. Move on! Get on to menopause next!" Paglia further accused Wolf of having greeted one interviewer wearing "a pair of flimsy see-through orange harem pants, scarcely obscuring black panties" (Sunday Times, 22 ii).

Feminist Katie Roiphe, author of a ground-breaking book on date-rape challenging the notion of women as victims, said: "I find it distasteful. Whether or not it happened, taking on somebody whose health is failing strikes me as a little desperate. It's completely sensible to have a statute of limitations. Even criminals are entitled to some protection." The London novelist Howard Jacobson recalled that, in his early career as an English lecturer in pre-Dworkin 1970's, affairs were the norm as feminists sought to prove themselves by sleeping around. "As often as not we were the quarry," he wrote. "I say `we' because sex with students was more or less a departmental affair. Most philosophers did it, a goodly number of geographers did it, not quite so many historians, but in English literature we all did it."

This account of libidinous feminism of the 1970s in contrast with victim feminism of the 1980s was confirmed by Canadian columnist Margaret Wente; and in the Guardian, columnist Zoe Williams said Wolf had done feminism no favours. Camille Paglia, too, said many girls were at it with staff during her own time in Yale of the 1970s, and she criticized Wolf saying, "Feminists like her are trying to somehow reshape institutions so they are like nurseries, a comfy zone for White, middle-class girls." Ms Wolf made her name with the book The Beauty Myth after a year at Oxford University. In 2003, Ms Wolf (married and with children) consulted her lawyers after doing an interview with the British pseudo-Black spoof TV presenter Ali G who teased her that if women were allowed equal rights at work, "they'll want them at home" as well. She claimed she had been used for racist humour.

In 2000, Wolf earned $15,000 monthly for advising Democrat presidential candidate Al Gore: she told him to use `earth' colours so as to be more of an `alpha male' and thus appeal to female voters. Wolf also accused Yale divinity professor Gilbert Bond of `sexually abusing' an undergraduette whom he was mentoring - in that case a lawsuit was pending. Wolf was rubbished in the Washington Post (25 ii) by centre-right columnist Anne Applebaum; but otherwise the American press remained strangely incurious, not even discovering whether Naomi had been wearing jeans or a skirt at the moment of Professor Bloom's "encroachment" on her thigh. The Guardian (26 ii)surveyed six leading femininnies and found them 2-1 pro-Wolf and especially anti-Paglia and generally bitchy, and female American bloggers `Crafty Librarian' (23 ii) and `Soggy' (23 ii) backed her, and she claimed to be "flooded by a torrent" of supportive e-mails (25 ii); but opinions at History News Network were divided (27 ii), Meghan O'Rourke accused Wolf of "irresponsibility" and "hysteria" in the U.S. magazine Slate (25 ii), feminist blogger Jenny Weiner called her "silly" (24 ii), correspondents at Independent Women's Forum said the "lipstick feminist" "may have gone too far this time" (20 ii)and made fun of her call from God to reveal that Bloom had got out of reading her poetry (24 ii), British columnist Jenny Hjul called Wolf "babyish" and said she had evidently learned nothing from her encounter with Ali G (Scotsman, 26 ii) and the Spectator also pooh-poohed Wolf (28 ii).

A 2004 student of Bloom's at Yale said she didn't find him at all `sexist' - though apparently he called all his girl students "sweetheart".. (Yale Daily News, 26 ii). A friend of Professor Bloom claimed that the affair between Wolf and Bloom had been quite something and that Wolf had visited Bloom's home on three occasion to leave her erotic poetry for him (New York Observer, 26 ii). By 28 ii, columnist Caroline Overington was writing for Sydney Morning Herald that Wolf had indeed succeeded in stimulating outrage - "most of it at herself (including some from the New Statesman's Cristina Odone who had written of "Wolf's most unforgiveable disservice to feminism"); but Overington's colleague at the Herald, Julia Baird (28 ii),felt some sympathy for Wolf being attacked as a vamp by Camille Paglia so there seemed a reasonable chance the argument would run and run, splitting feminism irrevocably in the process.

EDINBURGH LUNI HYPE BLASTED IN LETTER TO Student NEWSPAPER

13 ii 2004
Dear Editors,
I was amused to see your reporter Sam Friedman trying to mislead us into believing that the University of Edinburgh is on some kind of a roll, using ancient figures of Edinburgh Nobelists (Student, 11 ii 04, 'Edinburgh top of the world'). The fact is that Edinburgh University enjoyed a period of greatness in the twentieth century -- making up for its earlier discriminatory failures to employ Scotland's best philosopher, David Hume, and the discoverer of electromagnetism, James Clerk Maxwell (after which pair of geniuses the University scandalously names two of its ghastly buildings). Today, however, our sad University has for several years not managed to get into the U.K.'s top ten. In June, 2003, The University of Edinburgh sank to a new low in overall U.K. university ratings, just 18th=, along with Southampton University, in a meta-analytic `Table of Tables' compiled by the Daily Telegraph (25 vi, p.17). This Table of Tables combined rankings from surveys conducted for the Daily Telegraph, the Financial Times, the Times, and the Sunday Times and further threw in rankings from a survey of employers of graduates.

Far from being 'top of the world', Edinburgh University is the only major U.K. university to have been sinking rapidly over the past decade -- despite its students having entry credentials comparable to those which obtain in St Andrews (which has overtaken it as Scotland's top uni). When will Edinburgh students wake up to what has been happening? -- The process was begun by the postmodern multicultural theologian, Principal Stewart Sutherland, who did not believe in race or IQ or any other kind of inconvenient truth; and it is now being set in concrete by a diminutive new Irish Principal, possessed of a cockney accent, whose bombastic talents and simplistic egalitarian beliefs are more suited to his being the head of a primary school than to running a university that could ever compete with Harvard, Yale, Oxford or Cambridge.
I am yours sincerely, -- Chris Brand.

This letter was published by Student (18 ii) along with a comment to the effect that I was `controversial', an `IQ realist', `disgraced', `crazy' and `loopy' but to be congratulated on keeping in touch. "Big shout out in da house, yo" was how they put it.

HOLLAND FED UP WITH UNINTEGRATED IMMIGRANTS

Showing the spirit of national liberal Pim Fortuyn to be alive and well, Holland announced it would expel 26,000 failed asylum, stop Dutch citizens under 24 from bringing in spouses from abroad, introduce a compulsory ID card for over 12 and allow welfare benefits only to immigrants who learned Dutch. Rotterdam (by 2000 a half non-White city) announced it would accept no more poor or unemployed immigrants for five years. Said council leader Ronald Sorensen, "Before, people just turned a blind eye; but not any more. It is the death of political correctness." According to the Times (14 ii), even left-wing politicians were coming to accept `the new politics', which included crackdowns on public nuisances and the immediate closure of cannabis caf‚s if hard drugs were found on the premises. The Dutch moves followed an all-party parliamentary report which concluded that Holland's attempt to create an integrated multi-ethnic society had "failed."

FAST TRACK LEARNING - MY SCHEME TO BE ADOPTED AT LAST!

After widely publicized allegations that A-Level exams were too easy, universities said they might undertake their own testing and Education Minister Charles Clarke said he would think of providing four `tiers' of education for 14-19 year-olds of differing abilities - allowing them to exit with `entry', `foundation', `intermediate' or `advanced' diplomas, apparently allowing a choice between `academic' and `vocational' paths. He further said "talented" children would be encouraged to join classes of older students, and students who were struggling would be allowed to give themselves more time by joining younger classes (Times, 18 ii). (The 2000 edition of THE g FACTOR, which contained the proposal of `track choice' as its major educational recommendation (in its Chapter 4), is available FREE at http://www.douance.org/qi/brandtgf.htm.)

LUNIVERSITY OF EDINBURGH GIVES UP GOD

In a new excess of PeeCee and amidst howls of protest from the Church of Scotland and even from Jewish and Muslim groups, Edinburgh University announced it would ban Christian prayers at its graduation ceremonies.

OZ RACE FLARE-UP

Some 150 aborigines from the Sydney ghetto of Redfern (famous for drug dealing) showed their attitude to multicultural Australia by injuring fifty policemen (hospitalizing many) and torching cars and a train station in a nine-hour battle (in which rioters threw bricks and Molotov cocktails) after a 17-year-old Aborigine had fallen and impaled himself through his neck on a metal fence and died at the culmination of what may have been a police chase (though police denied he was being chased). Redfern aboriginal elder Lyle Munro told the crowd gathered at the scene of the riot they should be proud that Redfern's young people had "stood up to police." But Labour Party Opposition leader Mark Latham denounced aborigine parents who had allowed children under ten to join in the rioting.

As a police sweep for suspects began, both an aunt and a girlfriend of the dead teenager were arrested and charged. Australia's loopy left expressed fury at politicians talking of `individual responsibility' for the rioting rather than blaming capitalism, conservatism, British imperialism and racism.

{Aborigines make up 400,000 of Australia's 20 million population and are notorious for ineducability, criminality, drunkenness, welfare dependency, early deaths, marital violence and child abuse. Aborigine IQ has sometimes been estimated to be below 70. The houses in the Redfern ghetto (called `The Block') were compulsorily purchased for aborigines in the 1970s with a grant from the federal government in an attempt to alleviate homelessness and other problems among Sydney's aboriginal population. Involving "bright, modern and multi-unit blocks", Redfern became nationally known as the major place where aborigines could search for lost relatives and where government ministers could go to apologize for their White ancestors' `genocide'; but it went into steep decline in the 1990s as aboriginal leaders bickered among themselves. }

RACE-REALIST LOVEBIRDS

To the acclaim of London School supporters everywhere, the silver-haired Emeritus Professor Richard Lynn (formerly of Ulster but lately of Gloucestershire) announced his engagement to ex-headmistress Mrs Joyce Walters (of Somerset). `Spanker Lynn', as he became known in the McDougall NewsLetters (when he joined with me in issuing rebuffs to American social psychologists who claimed childhood spankings led to conservatism - little heeding the cases of the mightily abused Lenin and Stalin) richly deserved some love in his life after ten years of widowhood and very hard work for the London School on his books Dysgenics, Eugenics and IQ and the Wealth of Nations (still scheduled for review in the journal Heredity). Richard is the proud possessor of an early Private Eye cover where race-realist Enoch Powell stretches out his hands to either side of him, in the classic manner of the angler boasting in a pub about his latest catch, and says "They have them this big." So Joyce will never lack for entertainment.

CUSTOMER CHOICE ADVOCATED re HEALTH AND EDUCATION

Empowerment of individuals and families, urged by Professor Julian Le Grand, the Richard Titmuss Professor of Social Policy at the London School of Economics (and in internet McDougall NewsLetters, passim), received high praise from the sage Political Editor of the London Times, Peter Riddell. At present, decisions about health and education are made chiefly by politicians, experts and bureaucrats; but Le Grand's new book Motivation, Agency and Public Policy provides careful argument that neoliberalism (even if monitored) would be better.

NEW ANTI-PEECEE WEBSITE

Joining psychologist John Ray's effort, Londoner/countryman Graham Asher began supplying anti-peecee mat‚riel, starting with a splendid story that the New Zealand Government had banned the saying of (Christian) grace at its dinners but was spending money like water flying aboriginal `leaders' around the world to debug its embassies of `evil spirits' which upset Maoris.

RACE REALISM SURVIVES IN NHS - BUT PERHAPS NOT MUCH LONGER

Following the death in a `medium secure unit' in Britain's National Health Service of a violent and drug-using Rastafarian drummer, an enquiry was promptly mounted to `root out racism.' Imagine investigator Sir John Blofeld's shock at being told that Black patients show more schizophrenia, need larger doses of anti-psychotic medication and are routinely regarded as "more aggressive, more alarming, more dangerous and more difficult to treat" than Whites (Times, 7 ii)! Eventually he decided to brand the NHS as "institutionally racist" and urge it to throw most of its Black psychotics on to the streets ooops into the community.

{It was not stated whether Sir John -- evidently intent on aping scourge-of-the-Met, Sir William Macpherson of Cluny -- had considered that the reappearance on British streets of thousands of Black lunatics was unlikely to do much for race relations....}

IQ REALISM

Intelligence got a rare mention on British TV when Channel 5 (8 ii, 20:30pm) followed the case of a woman (a nurse, wife/secretary and mother of three) born with hydrocephaly which - after the excess spinal fluid had been drained at 9 months - left her with a hole the size of a clementine in the middle of her head and a cortex at some points only 1cm thick. The lady's IQ turned out to be 113, and - luckily for the London School (esp. Phil Rushton) scientists in Cleveland, Ohio discovered that her brain weight was roughly normal.

LABOUR ISN'T WORKING
The Sun newspaper (9 ii) revealed that, thanks to Labour's failure to legislate properly against terror conspirators and troughmen lawyers, mad obese hook-fisted West-hating Muslim preacherman Abu Hamza was scheduled to cost Britain millions of pounds over seven years as smart-alec human rights lawyers would work to prevent his deportation. Hamza's family was receiving œ1,030.65 a week benefit. It also cost U.K. taxpayers œ250,000 a year to police his preaching, œ500,000 for MI5 surveillance and œ250,000 annually in legal fees in the effort to kick him out.

EDUCATION REALISM

New research in Scotland found a big boost for reading in children taught by `synthetic phonics' - a scheme similar to my own that was made available to McDNL readers in the issue for 9 June, 1998. Using marked plastic letters with magnets on the back, children are encouraged to selected the right marked letter to represent a particular sound (e.g. distinguishing between the `long' and the `short' forms of the letter A) and then go on to make up words from the phonemes (Sunday Times, 8 ii; Times 9 ii). Other research from England reported that teenage boys do better at English if they are taught in single-sex classes (www.nfer.ac.uk).

IMMIGRATION REALISM

Following the deaths of 19 Chinese illegal immigrants slaving for Snakehead and/or Triad gangs as cockle pickers in treacherously tidal Morecambe Bay, the first leading article in Sunday Times declared U.K. immigration policy simply "a mess."

RACE REALISM

A new book on race, Race: the Reality of Human Differences, by anthropologist Vincent Sarich and Skeptic editor Frank Miele (Westview, $27-50), stirred fury at Nature (5 ii) where reviewer Robert N. Proctor (a historian at Penn State University) called it "disturbing", "bombastic" and "overstated" and blamed it for using the work of "raciologists" Arthur Jensen and Philippe Rushton.

But getting real about race was beginning to appeal to Blacks themselves, said Black columnist Tony Sewell in the Sunday Times (8 ii). Apparently British Blacks were becoming impressed by the escalating rate of gun crime among their number - and since British Blacks shoot mainly other Blacks the phenomenon could scarcely be blamed on Whites. British Blacks were also noting the yawning class difference within the Black community - showing that Blacks could get ahead if they behaved themselves. In the USA, wrote Sewell, Berkeley linguistics professor John McWhorter had felt bold enough to blame Black failures on a "wariness of books and learning [which is frankly] ingrained" - though of course he dared not mention that anti-academic attitudes spring chiefly from low IQ in Blacks as in Whites. Likewise, the new book by liberal-left eminences Abigail Thernstrom (Manhattan Institute) and Stephan Thernstrom (Harvard), No Excuses: Closing the Racial Gap in Learning, dismisses most conventional environmental explanations for Black educational failure, blames Black culture and urges a return to giving Black children traditional discipline in schools (including school uniforms, Saturday classes, detentions and expulsions).

HUMAN ACCOMPLISHMENT APPLAUDED

Charles Murray's massive book, Human Accomplishment: The Pursuit of Excellence in the Arts and Sciences, 800 B.C. to 1950 (HarperCollins, $29.95) was given a seal of approval by one of Britain's top historians, the biographer, author of Hitler and Churchill and TV-presenter-to-be Andrew Roberts (Times Literary Supplement, 6 ii 04). Most of Murray's selected geniuses were `dead White European males', coming in particular from the hexagonal region bordered by Naples, Marseilles, Dorset, Glasgow, the northern tip of Denmark and Wroclaw. Roberts (who simmered up at Gonville & Caius College, Cambridge - where I gave the lecture `Ten Arguments for Race Realism' in 1997) specially noted that "the African contribution to human progress since 800B.C. - despite its vast population - has been almost minimal" and said that Murray's work would long provide "a central thesis" for students of man's intellectual history. Further approving Murray's elitism, Roberts added that today, 30% of Nobel prizewinners are Jewish though Jews are only 0.5% of the world population.
